Breaking News: Hamilton (Ariz.) DE Qualen Cunningham has committed to Texas A&M. The 4-star defender has chosen the Aggies over Oregon, USC, Oklahoma, Arizona State, among others.
"It feels great to finally get it done," Cunningham told GigEm247. "It also feels good to know I'll be playing and competing in the SEC. I talked to my dad tonight before I made any decisions and he's been with me all the way through it. Talking to Coach Sumlin, he was real pumped up to have me and he said he'll always be there to take care of me. Also, he said he wanted to welcome me to the family in Aggieland.
He added, "Coach (Terry) Price was so hyped up about it. He's so confident in what kind of player I am. I'm just excited the trigger has finally been pulled."
The Top247 prospect talks about what he's going to bring to the table when he gets to College Station.
"Coach Price is going to convert my speed to power," he said. "I'm going to be able to get to the quarterback and limit 3rd down conversions. Coach Jackson will help me get bigger in the off season and I know I'm headed to the right place."
He added, "I hope to bring to the table the same thing Damontre Moore did. We have some of the same attributes. I just want to use my speed to dominate off the edge."
Being able to follow in his father's footsteps is something the future Semper Fi All-American is something that has made his whole family happy.
"Honestly, it's amazing," he said. "I've always wanted to be like my dad. Being able to finally follow in his footsteps and play on the same field as he did is just going to put another chip on my shoulder"
Cunningham becomes the Aggies 16th commitment for the class of 2014 and he's the third elite defensive lineman to commit to Kevin Sumlin in the past week.
