Friday Debate: Biggest Sleeper

It's the much anticipated return of GigEm247's Friday Debate. Each week we'll break down a topic, give our opinions, and open the subject up to community debate. For the first one of 2012, let's take a look at potential sleepers in the A&M recruiting class of 2012.

Derel Walker at Trinity Valley C.C.

For this debate, we're defining sleepers as anyone in the class with a 247Sports rating below 93.

Taylor's Take

I just think Derel Walker is that outside threat at receiver that A&M has been missing. With Jeff Fuller hobbled last season, the Aggies had a tough time getting the ball down the field. Walker is a tremendous route runner with great body control, and coming from the JUCO ranks his body is better developed and he has more experience than a guy coming out of high school. That experience should help him pick up the new system quickly, and make him an impact player much quicker than many think.

He and Matt Davis have been throwing together on an almost daily basis since arriving on campus to work on their chemistry. He's also a guy that David Beatty and Kliff Kingsbury spoke very highly of on signing day. With Fuller's departure, and that "X" spot really open for the taking he's going to push guys like Nate Askew and Brandal Jackson for significant playing time.

Aubrey's Take

I've already laid my cards on the table regarding Germain Ifedi, so I'll pick someone else for this that I think is really going to surprise people. I really like Kenneth Marshall and Michael Richardson, but for a true sleeper I'm going to have to go with Tyrone Taylor.

I think Taylor moves really well for his height, and I think he's got a decent frame to add size. I didn't think he was a great fit in a 3-4 because I didn't see him being able to get big enough to play a true tackle over a guard, or being able to move his hips well enough to drop back into pass coverage. But I think he has great potential as a five technique rushing the passer from over the tackles. Like his brother, he has a good first step and solid quickness, and once he adds some strength he's going to be a force to reckon with on the outside of the line.

He may not be an instant impact guy like Walker, but down the road I think he's going to be a tremendous player in Mark Snyder's defense.
