And why I hink stars don't mean diddly squat. Because this guy has offers from over a half dozen top tier schools to include ND, LSU, Clemson, Stanford, OU, A&M, UCLA, etc. and he's still a 3. I'll put my stock in the coaches doing the recruiting and making the offers.

JKD, all you have to do is look at our biggest contributors on offense last year (Johny 'football', Evans, Ben Malena) to see stars dont mean as much as having good coaches and good evaluators of talent.

I'm just saying I think Miles, Saban, Stoops, Sumlin and the boys are better evaluators of talent than those assigning the stars. Give up the stars? Hell no! It's entertainment, just don't bet the farm on it.

Ummm, no he wasn't if i recall he was a 3 star... and i dont think he was even rated high as a 3 star.... In fact i remember a ton of people on many of the recruiting boards back then saying that Malena wasnt even worth recruiting and wouldnt amount to much.
I just looked it up.... not a 4 star.

you know who else was rated as a 3star... Moore.
But i dont think anyone on here is saying that these recruiting websites are full of crap and dont know what they are talking about...... I know how hard it is... plus i am sure there are higher ups that make the final desision that dont really have the up close personal exposure that the local guys who cover these recruits do... correct me if I am wrong Hamm or Bloom.

Oh, well that settles it.... AY post him as a 4 star..... this site has him as a 3 star... Texags has him as the #6 rated RB in Texas back then (pretty sure thats not 4star ranking)....ESPN had him as a 3 star... and i am usually pretty good at remembering AY back then and I am sure he was not rated that high at first.... posible they changed it later? Much later?... and i remember well most were saying he was not worth the Scholarship

Why are you referring to Rivals as AY? Tarp didn't make Malena have 4 stars.
Scout has Malena as their highest rated 3 star.
ESPN does have Malena as a 3 star, but his #33 position ranking is pretty close to Scout's (#26) and Rivals (#25).
You using Luicci's top 44 ranking is like a horn using Ketchum's LSR. Credibility = lost.
So no, he was a low 3 star as you insinuated.

WOW!! Chip are you constipated today?..... AY (aggie yell) is part of Rivals, so thats why i was referring to Rivals as AY....... sorry if that got your panties in a wad.

As far as that goes i thought this (your argument) was about 3star vs 4 star not how high a 3star he was, but if spinning this conversation and splitting hairs is what is needed for your credibility then so be it Chip..... whatever makes you sleep at night.

Since we are on 247 sports lets use their rating from the 2010 class. Ben Malena & Damontre More were 3* while Jarvis Harrison was a 2. Go to the 247 2010 Commit list so you don't have to rake my word for it.
