More offers out in Texas

Class of 2013 prospects in the Lone Star State continue to pick up big offers, and attend junior days on a daily and weekly basis.

Deon Hollins at Marshall

Washington is the current leader for four-star defensive end Deon Hollins. Ace recruiter Tosh Lupoi, in his first year in Seattle, is his recruiter of record.

On Monday, Notre Dame offered a defensive end from the Houston area, while one of the nations top signal callers picked three offers, two from the Atlantic Coast Conference and one from the Big Ten.

Big offer for Hollins

Edge rush prospect Deon Hollins (Missouri City/Marshall) has enjoyed three tremendous days on the recruiting front. On Saturday, the 6-foot-1, 220-pound high school defensive end picked up an offer from Texas A&M on Saturday at junior day and added offers from West Virginia, Colorado, Utah on Sunday.

Then on Monday night, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly extended an offer to the Houston area prospect with an elite first step.

“He actually sent me a message on Facebook, that’s how I found out about it,” Hollins said. “He told me that they really like me and that they would love for me to be a part of their program. After that, I gave [Irish assistant] coach [Kerry] Cooks a call to talk about it.”

A Pac-12 program that is sure to make some serious noise on the national level this recruiting cycle currently has the lead for Hollins’ services.

“Washington is actually out in front for me right now,” he said. “(First-year Huskies assistant) Tosh Lupoi is my recruiter, and I can tell he’s a real ‘family-guy’ and he just seems like my brother/father. He’s just an excellent guy.”

Hollins has previous offers from Arkansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Duke, Northwestern, Texas Tech and Tulsa. He will attend Texas junior day February 25.

Texas A&M recently offered 6-foot-6, 220-pound Daeshon Hall, one of the fastest risers in the Lone Star State.

Three Monday offers for top signal caller

Cody Thomas (Colleyville/Heritage) continues to be one of the more heavily recruited pro-style quarterback prospects in the country. On Monday, the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder picked up offers from Virginia, North Carolina and Michigan State.

That trio of offers follows a Sunday offer from TCU for Thomas, who is one of the top baseball prospects in the 2013 class as well.

Thomas, currently No. 94 in the Top247, had previous offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, Texas Tech, USC, Vanderbilt and FIU.

A&M offers rising DE

Defensive end Daeshon Hall (Lancaster) continues to see his stock skyrocket. The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder was offered by Texas A&M on Monday following previous offers from Washington, TCU, Baylor and Missouri. Arkansas and Texas Tech could be the next to offer.

Hall tallied 60 tackles and 12 sacks in 2011 earning first team all-district honors.

Quick Hitters

- Arkansas is the latest to offer cornerback Maurice Smith (Sugar Land/Dulles). The 5-foot-11, 178-pounder was offered by Nebraska on Saturday at junior day and will be at Texas junior day February 25. The man press cornerback also has offers from Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas A&M, LSU, Texas Tech and Utah.

- Wide Receiver Ellis Jefferson (Denton/Guyer) picked up an offer from Mississippi State on Monday. Colorado had previously offered the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder. He attended Texas Tech junior day Feb. 18 and will be at Texas on Feb. 25.

- Washingon State is the second to offer inside linebacker/defensive end Reggie Chavis (Houston/Sharpstown). Boise State previously offered the 6-foot-2, 238-pounder. Texas A&M, Houston, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and others are showing interest. Chevis will attend junior day at Houston March 3.

- Defensive lineman Vincent Taylor (San Antonio/Madison) picked an offer from Vanderbilt.

- Utah is the latest to offer wide receiver Austin Bennett (Manvel). The 6-0, 170-pound advanced route runner also has verbal offers from SMU, TCU and Arkansas.

-Cornerback Dakota Austin (Lancaster) picked up an offer from Texas Tech at junior day Saturday. The 5-foot-11, 160-pounder will also attend junior day at Kansas State March 3, where his father played. Oklahoma State and Nebraska have also extended junior day invites.

- Wide Receiver Dylan Cantrell (Whitehouse) picked up an offer from Minnesota over the weekend. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder had previous offers from Ole miss, Navy, Mississippi State,

- Speedy cornerback Jaylon Scott (Dallas/Carter) attended Oklahoma State junior day last weekend as well as Baylor January 29. The 5-foot-8, 161-pounder with 10.6 100-meter speed has a verbal offer from Colorado State along with interest from Washington State, Mississippi State, Purdue, Nebraska, North Texas and Texas A&M.

- Safety Colin Janice (Orange/West Orange-Stark) picked up a February 25 junior day invite from Texas on Monday. He attended LSU junior day February 4. Utah, Baylor and others are also showing interest in the 5-foot-9, 175-pound hard-hitting prospect.

- Running back Jalen Rhodes (Garland/Rowlett) picked up a junior day invite from Kentucky. Missouri is also showing interest in the 5-foot-9, 176-pounder.
