Texas 7-on-7: Small school preview

The Texas 7-on-7 state championships kick off on Thursday. Due to NCAA rules, the tournament can no longer be held on the Texas A&M campus. This summer it will be held at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park in Leander.

Jarrett Stidham is one of two 2015 quarterbacks to have been offered by Texas A&M.

The Division II tournament for Class 1A-3A teams as well as private schools will be held Thursday and Friday. The Division I tournament featuring teams from Classes 4A and 5A will take place on Friday and Saturday.

Pools can be found here (for Division II) and here (for Division I).

GigEm247 takes a look at all the prospects in the Division II tournament that will be in action this weekend. Prospects in bold are either already targets or commits for Texas A&M or have a strong chance to become targets at some point.

RB Anthony Hines – Episcopal School of Dallas (2017) – Though he has yet to attend a high school class, the running back has already picked up offers from Mississippi State, Akron and Montana.

QB/ATH D’Eriq King – Houston Westbury Christian (2016) – The young quarterback is a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands and should be heavily recruited in two years.

QB Foster Sawyer – FW All Saints – The TCU commit is a big presence in the pocket with a strong arm. He could be a real steal for the Horned Frogs.

FB Daniel Gresham – FW All Saints - The recent Louisville pledge plays tailback but will likely end up at fullback in college.

WR/S Kendall Adams – FW All Saints - One of the more overlooked players in the state, the two-way standout has good size and athleticism and a few colleges have offered.

WR Ian Sadler – Argyle – A Texas Tech commit, Sadler is a dangerous weapon in the slot.

S Connor Wilson – Argyle – A bigger defensive back, Wilson could possibly end up as a linebacker for Kansas State.

LB Sam Sizelove – Argyle - Another Kansas State commit, Sizelove has the size of a defensive end but still covers well.

RB Nick Ralston – Argyle (2015) – The big back was a second-team all-state pick as a sophomore after running for over 1,700 yards.

LB Somari Wright – Cameron Yoe – Though a bit undersized, Wright was being talked about as one of the top linebackers in the state a year ago. Things have slowed a bit but he still has some offers.

TE Mavin Saunders – Houston Kinkaid – The four-star Florida State commit is new to football but he has shown great hands over the past year.

DB Thomas Dillon – Houston Kinkaid – A versatile defensive back, Dillon picked up several new offers this summer.

LB William Clement – Houston Kinkaid – Though he is built very well at 6-3/195, Clement is just beginning to put it all together on the field. He committed to New Mexico State this week.

RB Jacob Mathews – Houston Kinkaid – Though he plays running back in high school, teams like Baylor see him as a future slot receiver.

QB JT Granato – Houston Kinkaid (2015) – Granato is in a deep class of QBs for 2015 but he will see his fair share of offers before all is said and done.

WR Samuel Mays – Houston Kinkaid (2015) – The tall receiver should see his stock soar this season. He has one offer so far but he is up there in talent with the best in the class of 2015.

LB Christian Britt – Ingleside – The 6-2/215 defender is hearing from a number of schools and could see his first offer any day.

WR Terrance Robinson – Ingleside - The lanky receiver has looked very good at camps this summer and will prove to be a steal for some school.

S Darrion Johnson – Navasota – A transfer from Brenham this offseason, it is still unclear if Johnson will actually play for Navasota.

WR Trevor Long – East Bernard – The 6-4/200 wide receiver is a Rice commitment.

QB Nathan Elliott – Celina (2015) – The dual-threat quarterback has been starting since his freshman year. The son of the head coach has an early North Carolina offer.

S Mookie Carlile – Stephenville – Though Carlile is still awaiting his first offer, several schools have taken notice of him.

QB Jarrett Stidham – Stephenville (2015) – Though he played wide receiver for the state champions as a sophomore, the four-star quarterback already has quite a few offers as a passer. Texas A&M is one of the schools to have offered.

LB Josh Walker – Gilmer – The rangy linebacker is a Texas A&M commitment, choosing the Aggies over Texas, Oklahoma and several others.

WR Devondrick Dixon – Gilmer – Dixon picked up an offer from Texas State after its East Texas satellite camp and wasted no time committing.

CB Kris Boyd – Gilmer (2015) – One of a group of very talented East Texans in the class of 2015, Boyd does not yet hold an A&M offer but is being looked at closely by the Aggies. He’s a heavy Texas lean at this point.

LB James David – Rockdale – A big middle linebacker, David has committed to Baylor.

QB Quinten Dormady – Boerne (2015) – The four-star prospect and son of the head coach put up huge numbers as a sophomore.

S Joseph Clark – Tyler Chapel Hill – An undersized safety, Clark is one of the biggest hitters in the state. He picked up a Texas Tech offer after a satellite camp this summer.

WR Tee Goree – Carthage – Goree has good size, speed and solid hands. He has a handful of offers and will likely see that list grow his senior year.

WR Okeeron Rutherford – Carthage – Rutherford has a couple of offers of his own as a big wide receiver at 6-4/180.

QB Blake Bogenschutz – Carthage – The pro-style passer was offered by UTSA this summer and committed quickly thereafter.

DB Brian Bolton – Carthage (2015) – The 5-11/165 defensive back was a first-team all-state pick as a sophomore.

RB Tyreik Gray – Houston Episcopal (2015) – Gray is a player not getting enough early love. He has offers from the likes of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State already and is a good receiving threat out of the backfield as a big back.
