Aggie Basketball begins the CBE Classic

  • Tonight is the first of two potentially huge games in Kansas City for the basketball team. Game one is against St. Louis tonight at 6:30 on ESPNU with the winner facing the winner of Washington State and Kansas tomorrow night.

St. Louis would be a good RPI win down the road because of the strength of the Atlantic 10, and obviously just getting on the floor with Kansas would do wonders for A&M's god-awful strength of schedule.

If you're one of the folks that thinks A&M could make a run at the NCAA's this year, a win or two here would be a great place to start.

  • Getting a young team in a game against a big itme opponent would be great experience too. Think they need a game against a Kansas type program to get them ready for the conference schedule and hopefully a tournament.

  • Too bad we have a not so good coach.

  • I'm interested to see what A&M does tactically if they face Kansas. I know Kennedy wants to play big, but it might work in A&M's favor to speed the game up and get away from a half court game.

St. Louis is going to have a bigger lineup, but still won't be playing with two true bigs. They start a pair of forwards that are both around 6-6 so it will be interesting to see who Ray Turner is going to be guarding.

If they get Kansas though they have a true "two big" lineup with Jeff Withey (7-0) and Ellis (6-8). A&M's forward have trouble scoring in the halfcourt on the low block but Ray Turner and Andrew Young are both pretty good in transition. Would Kennedy consider going to a smaller lineup with Alex Caruso at the 4 to speed the game up and neutralize Withey?

  • I'd be interested to see how Kansas would come out defensively (if we beat St. Louis). We've obviously shown our struggles vs. a zone, but they're also much more athletic than any team we've faced, so man-to-man shouldn't be an issue for them. I figure they'd play man, and I'm curious to see how we would fare against that

  • I was right. We surprised people all right. Ugh... What a shitty performance.
