Personally, I like the cow where it's at. I think it would be cool for SEC fans to drive by it and ask A&M fans why 13-0 is branded on it and hear the story. It's our history and it's never going away. Just because AO is trying to phase out that part of their merchandise doesn't change the storied history between both schools, whether we play them anymore or not.

Come on Hammy the big porcelain cow on George Bush is pretty obnoxious. Yeah it would be cool for about five seconds until the SEC fans say: "Yall really do have an inferiority complex to those guys" or "Why don'y yall put that much effort in promoting your own mascot as you do trying to ruin another schools?".

Yes the history is important and a big part of our game day experience but the obsession with Saw'Em Off makes us look simple, uncreative and totally feeds the little brother mentality. Saw Em Off was a solid marketing scheme and AO made a lot of money off of it but that merchandise isn't part of our history. Don't make the mistake of confusing a storied history with an independent entrepreneurs ideas to earn a buck.

Right because fans of Auburn and Alabama have never been accused of having an inferiority complex

Auburn doesnt have their whole fight song dedicated to Alabama and vice versa

Auburn doesn't have 50+% of their merchandise being anti-Alabama and vice versa

  • But they dont celebrate it like we do!! Come on, Yes Auburn and Texas A&M are the smaller of the two heavy hitters in thier states, the difference is we play right into the inferiority complex arguement by putting more emphasis into selling anti-Texas merchandise than we do selling Aggie merchandise. Thats the difference.

    we don't anymore

  • Couple opinions. I really think the whole anti-Texas thing is a little out of proportion with the 50+% of merchandise. Personally, I don't have any shirts or apparel with anti-tu. Really, the only ones I have seen are saw em off apparel, and I think it is safe to say 50% of aggie apparel sold does not contain saw em off.

second, FYI, the war hymn was adopted in 1920 from a song written by Pinky Wilson. Even then it was thought that it focused on tu too much, so a first verse was written in 1928 to focus on the aggies, but has never really caught on so hardly anyone even knows it. Reality is it does focus on tu more than I like, but that's how it was made, but could they possibly revamp the first verse to make it more liked? (opinions please). Here are the lyrics of the entire war hymn.

    Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
    Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!

    First Verse
All hail to dear old Texas A&M,
    Rally around Maroon and White,
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies,
They are the boys who show the fight.
That good old Aggie spirit thrills us.
And makes us yell and yell and yell; --
So let's fight for dear old Texas A&M,
We're goin' to beat you all to --
    Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
    Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
    Rough! Tough!
    Real stuff! Texas A&M!

    Second Verse
    Good-bye to Texas university.
So long to the orange and white.
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies,
They are the boys who show
    the real old fight.
The eyes of Texas are upon you.
That is the song they sing so well, (SOUNDS LIKE HELL!)
    So, good-bye to Texas university,
We're goin' to beat you all to --
    Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
    Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
    Rough! Tough!
    Real stuff! Texas A&M!

    Saw Varsity's Horns Off
    Saw Varsity's Horns Off!
    Saw Varsity's Horns Off!
    Saw Varsity's Horns Off!
    Short!

    Varsity's Horns are Sawed Off!
    Varsity's Horns are Sawed Off!
    Varsity's Horns are Sawed Off!
    Short!

    Hot Time in Austin
Late one night, when the teasips were in bed,
Old Sul Ross took a lantern in the shed.
The Aggie kicked it over, he winked and then he said,
“It’ll be a hot time in Austin tonight.”

That was an action by a single fan. When our fanbase wears shirts with such witty punchlines as:

"You call it a mascot we call it a hamburger"

    or

"Austin where the women are women and the men are too"

    even better

"suck it hippies" with a neon Sawed Off horns with it

We truly do look like a little brother.

Market the hell out of Block-T's, T-Stars, Aggie Football, SEC, and Bowtie but please stop selling clothing which puts more emphasis on our rivals than our own school. That's not what makes a rivalry, that is penis envy.

  • I'm stunned at how bad T's whiffing on this, I normally agree with him like 99.99% of the time

    LoneStar killing it

"Saw 'Em Off" or anything pertaining to "Saw 'Em Off" outside the War Hymm needs to die a slow, painful death

Can some recap for me what the t-shirt debacle was with AO? I missed it. Thx.

They made a shirt with all the SEC states and it included North Carolina

I think it's stupid. Trying to eradicate the "Saw'em Off" slogan is impossible when the lyrics to your fight song include the words "Saw varsity's horns off." I get it though, AO is trying to "renew" their image because of the recent t-shirt debacle. I can see putting a big SEC logo in maroon and white to replace the sawed off horns logo on the side of the building. Personally, I like the cow where it's at. I think it would be cool for SEC fans to drive by it and ask A&M fans why 13-0 is branded on it and hear the story. It's our history and it's never going away.
