Alright Fellas...

  • So, I've decided to take the plunge and turn the gf into the mrs. I have a few questions for the married/engaged folk:

    1. Is asking the father for permission/blessing still a common practice?

    2. Good place to buy rings in Houston? I know what I want to get, for the most part, but I don't want it to be over priced.

    3. Is proposing on a cruise too cliche? My plan currently is to wait until the winter holidays, but I have a cruise with the gf and 2 other couples coming up in a month. Too little time to look for rings? Too cheesy?

    2. I know a guy in Houston that only works by referrals- twice the quality and great price/options- PM me if interested but doubt he could do in a month.. maybe... ( and no, I'm not related to him - older couple and as straight at they come )... I'd highly recommend-

    3. If it will surprise her and you are ready , go for it...

    Just got married myself in Feb...

    1) Definitely ask the the dad. Take him to dinner or something.

    2) Bluenile.com - I used it based on friends recommendations (very solid). Although Oldtimer's deal sounds good..

    I did bluenile, probably wouldn't again. There's nothing wrong with her ring, but 200,000 girls have an identical one.

    I'd ask her somewhere special to the 2 of you right before the cruise. She'll be on cloud 9 the entire week. Or she'll say no and you can just whore it up in Vegas with your boys instead of being on a boring cruise.

  • If you'd like I can get info for a jeweler from an Ag at work. He knew Ill be in the market soon so he told me about where he went for his wife and then returned for anniversary presents. Said he had everything appraised at other places and he paid about a quarter of what it's actually worth.

    I've been on one cruise. If you plan on spending much time in the cabin, uh, entertaining--I'd look elsewhere. Small cabins without any sound insulation.

    Ya no problem, I'll ask him tomorrow about it. Like I said, he's been there multiple times so it wasn't a one time experience or anything. I'll PM you the info once I get it. If I don't get it to you tomorrow remind me on like Monday. I'll also get you the contact info for the guy my best friend just used at the end of last year.

  • 1. Absolutely ask. If my future son in laws don't ask me their lives will be miserable and I will bypass them on any inheritance. Straight to grandkids, and if they don't give me grandkids, it's going to charity.

    2. The mark up on diamonds is incredible. I think Taylor's got a guy that can hook you up in Houston but if that doesn't work out shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up with one in B/CS.

    3. Doesn't matter where you do it, just make sure it's some place where it's just you two, and get down on one knee.

    Marriage is a hell of a lot of work but you're following God's plan for your life and the reward is immeasurable. Wait 'til you have kids. You'll realize why you're on this earth.

    2. I'm not sure but I can find out for you. I got mine in Austin and I am very pleased
    3. I doesn't matter if it's cliche or not, it should be somewhere that you feel is special, and y'all want to remember for the rest of your lives.

    Listen to cam. Diamond plain solitaire go with blue nile or diamonds usa like i did. But i wud go with something different too.

    100% ask dad.. Do it before cruise and if she says yes, have a pair of hooker heels and lingerie fr u to enjoy while she enjoys her toy
