Article on Mack Brown running off players...sad story

    Take the maroon glasses off. Every school loses players, even yours.

    Telling us how many players you signed over the last 6 years has nothing to do with how Mack has operated over the last 2. The fact is you have players leaving the team left and right and it appears Mack is running them off. Take the orange glasses off.

    Why does it appear that way? Because you want it to?

    I'm sure it has nothing to do with a new strength and conditioning coach that actually requires his players to work out. I'm sure it has nothing to do with an almost complete turnover of coaches who expect much more out of their players. I'm sure it has nothing to do with multiple proud 5-star recruits suddenly realizing that they would never see the field at Texas. I'm sure it has nothing to do with grade problems, concussions, or family issues back home.

    And yet, still, with all of this turnover we are most likely signing less than 20 players this year. We "have players leaving the team left and right" and we still sign on average less players each year than any Big 12 or SEC team with the exception of Vanderbilt, and that average will only go down after this year.

    I know you want Mack Brown to be the spawn of Satan, but the facts just do not back this up.

    One fact you seem to ignore is that Mack has consistently been towards the bottom of the Big 12 in graduation rates.

    Again, I don't really care, I don't care if he runs kids off. Mack just needs to stop presenting himself as a person that does care about kids' welfare, that he does care about them getting a degree because the facts are he doesn't.

    Mack is hired to win football games and that is all he cares about. Just admit it and stop being a hypocrite.

    Well what else has changed the last two years? The transfer numbers the last two years are higher than they have ever been in Mack's tenure. What do you think is the more likely explanataion? All of a sudden Mack's turned into a hardass or there has been a change in the attitude of the program brought upon by the new coaches? Also, it is undeniable that a couple of players also left due to failing out and personal issues back home.

    As for the graduation rate, I don't know what to think. I'd surely love it to be higher, but as the data shows, we keep more players for four years than most schools. I don't know why they don't end up graduating. Many people think our academic adviser, Brian Davis, is the root of the problem. He used to head up all of our sports but Augie and Rick got fed up and switched to a different person. Suddenly, their graduation rates increased and their players were able to remain eligible. I will 100% blame Mack for keeping Davis around. But if Mack keeps the players here on scholarship for their full four or five year tenure as students, as the data I presented earlier shows he does as well as any other major football university, how is he responsible if they don't put the work in to get their diploma?

    Exactly. Chuckie can defend his school and that's fine. what's funny, or sad, is we have two groups who or arguing that they run guys off and another group that says we need to be doing it.

    First we need to decide if we want to be like that, and second, how to accomplish it. My guess is there are guys who aren't contributing like we'd expect and are being beat out by underclassmen. We've stocked sam houston with enough leftovers that they can compete in FCS division.

    The big difference is they are trapdooring guys we wanted originally. We aren't running off guys that they wanted.
