Little boy young? See, I just don't get it. He's a kicker. One of our RS freshmen could be invited to NYC for the Heisman this year. It's as if you're suggesting every freshman kicker needs to be coddled by the coaches. There has got to be more than what you're sharing right now because that is ridiculous if true. I'm sure he'll get better but he sure is not starting his career off very well...

Pretty sure when he got here he had just turned 17. Very young for his class at an age where boys are at extremes on maturity level. He'll get there. But he's pissing me the fvck off right now

That should be your clue to reevaluate your position.

We've got a fish kicker. He's the only scholarship kicker on the team. We're In a bit of a scholly crunch for the 2013 class. No way a kicker gets another scholly. Now maybe open tryouts in the spring for a walkon slot, otherwise bertolet is our guy for the next 16 games or so.

Talk about pulling his scholarship is the reactionary decision of someone who can't see beyond today.

Do I like the misses? No way. What's the alternative?

Calm down, I hadn't seen his earlier post. What I quoted from him was basically frustration in that the kid's one and only job is to kick FGs. There's no excuse for him to be this bad at it, regardless of classification. I'm not so sure I wouldn't be opposed, though, if the coaches encouraged him to consider transferring to a school closer to home. We don't have room for multiple kickers on scholarship, but that doesn't mean Bertolet has to be the guy for four years if better options are out there. They don't have to pull his scholarship if it's his choice to leave...

You can pull his scholarship, but that still puts you in a bind for 2013 recruits. Are you suggesting we give one of the three remaining spots to a kicker and turn down Savage or RSJ? There's a lot of talent that we're in the mix for, and you want one of our 25 signees in 2013 to be a kicker? Pulling his scholarship settles the 85 schollys per school issue; it doesn't address the 25 NLI per year issue.

Not to mention that we would have another freshman kicker next fall. Could be in a similar position as we are now. Except that we had to turn down some top notch talent to get said freshman kicker in place.

Kickers are always iffy. Other positions are more predictable. I'll take a 4* LB, or ATH that we've been working on for 12 mos over scrambling to find someone at a position sumlin and company haven't even explored.

  • Maybe we could sign a JUCO kicker? If the recruit is a mid-term guy then it won't affect the scholarship limit... Am I right?

Not positive, but I think Flowers is the sixth Dec grad. You'd have to trap door someone. Wouldn't go over well.

I think we are stuck with bertolet through 2013. If he is shaky early next season, then you start recruiting the position. I would also entertain walkons. Wouldn't hurt to let Bertolet know where he stands.

Yea I just hope he gets better.. It's pretty evident that the kicking game is one of the weak spots on this team.
