Baylor has struck again.
On the heels of last year's whining, threat of lawsuits to keep A&M from leaving, and presenting themselves in newspapers statewide as the "defenders of Texas football rivalries" comes this gem from our dear friend Art Briles in today's Dallas Morning News:
Baylor’s Art Briles more than happy to put old rivalries in past
Baylor and SMU are former Southwest Conference foes, but Baylor coach Art Briles is not nostalgic for the old days.
“The less old rivalries that we continue to let burn, the better it is,” he said. “There’s too many associations from a recruiting standpoint … of people remembering what happened in 1978 as opposed to being 2012 and us going forward.”
SMU leads the series 36-35-7, but the Bears have won the last nine meetings.
I looked at the big12's week 1 schedules. There's not a single game worth flipping the channel to, its terrible. Only interested in the SMU game because Zach Line and the Garrett Gilbert story.
"With A&M, Missouri, Colorado, & Nebraska no longer donkey punching us, I think we can win more football games" Art Briles
Well, that and the fact that they talk about being religious but would take Charles Manson if they thought he'd help their team.
His teams were always the most roided up and ability to trash talk the opposing team after getting killed are well known.
He fits right in there.
Baylor will suck this year and into the future.
How much longer until a team like Tennessee, Cal, Maryland, etc. comes calling and he walks out the back door on them? (Same goes for Drew)
To be honest, I cannot wait until he leaves - because they will truly be in more hurt than when Griffin left this year.
I despise Baylor about twice as much as tu these days. Baylor talks trash like they have done something significant in the recent years. Robert Griffin was a great athlete, but as good as he was they still couldn't win double digit games. At least tu has been to two BCS National Championship games in the last decade. They actually have some credibility to their trash talk... BAYLOR HAS ZERO.
From IH-35 to IH-10... what then?
Don't forget they still couldn't beat the Ags
Your logic is boggling my mind
sucks that we'll have to face Briles every year on the field again as well as continue to face the lousy hypocrite in recruiting once Arkansas hires him in November.
I didn't even think about Arkansas but you are so right.
I wouldn't mind him going to Arkansas. It's a downgrade from Petrino and it takes Briles out of Texas (somewhat). So I see only an upside to that.
But if Bama's defense is amazing again, Kirby Smart may be a huge player for all open positions.
Let's not forget that Baylor finished 12th in the coaches poll (USA Today) last year, the highest ranking of any Texas school (TCU was 13th).
Yes, so what? Houston was 14th. If A&M were playing either one, A&M would have been favored as A&M still beat Baylor by 27 points in their best year in school history.
The point of the thread is that Baylor - the defender of Texas rivalries - is glad their rivalries are ending so people will somehow forget how much they have sucked since forever and only remember them for the one good year when they had a Heisman trophy winner.
Briles is 25-25 at Baylor - we just fired a guy for doing that.
Let's also not forget that they've beaten us like twice in the last 30 years.
