This is from the Dallas Morning News today. Press conference at Texas with Dodds, Powers, and the puppet from the Big 12 office:
Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds, who joined Bowlsby at a news conference along with school president Bill Powers and women’s AD Chris Plonsky, agreed with Bowlsby.
Athletic directors get along now, Dodds said, calling the atmosphere fun and positive.
Then he went further with an observation that might not be well received in places like Lincoln, Neb., and Columbia, Mo. — and College Station.
“We went a couple of years where we had people in the room that didn’t want to be in the room,” Dodds said. “And they made it hard to be in the room. Having that solved and having new ADs from institutions that want to be in the Big 12 … it’s changed the mix.
“I like the mix we have today.”
1. Love the entire rewriting of history.
2. Byrne was outspoken that he did not want to leave the Big 12 (so he couldn't have been talking about him).
3. Dodds is the one who DID want to leave - he was the one that started looking around to begin with when he and Powers were consulting with the Pac 12 behind everyone else's back.
4. Of course everybody in that room is now elated to be in the Big 12 - THEY HAD NO WHERE ELSE TO GO!. WVU was rejected by the SEC and ACC, no one outside of the Big East wanted TCU, no one wants Baylor, Kansas, Kansas St., Iowa St. - so of course they are all beside themselves to still be in a BCS conference. After we left for the SEC, Pac 12 then turned down Texas, OU, OSU, and Tech - otherwise they would all be gone.
Why does the Big Whatever Commish always have to be accompanied by Dodds in public to tell us how great thing are? Is there any other conference where this occurs?
Wow and with Bowlsbys recent comments saying leagues would regret expanding, as if he wouldn't take FSU, Clemson, Arkansas or Notre Dame right now.
Is this their media campaign they promised? SPIN AND HYPOCRISY?
Translation: "We went a couple of years with people in the room that didn't want to bow down and kiss my boots. And they made it hard to dominate the conversation. Having new AD's from institutions that were just desperate to be in any BCS conference ...it's changed the mix."
"I like a conference of desperate second-rate athletic programs that are willing to bend over for us."
I'm thinking there's a good chance Baylor and Iowa State games end up on the LHN. They need more content, and they're going to shove it down everyone's throat. I'm sure the room full of AD's are just thrilled with this.
"Dodds told the Express-News/Chronicle last spring that adding more football games to LHN was a way to gain leverage in the negotiations with carriers"
Dallas Morning News said they are looking at adding a third game on LHN. Rest of the Big 12 needs to step up and do their part to keep Texas happy.
I really wish the media would call these buffoons out on some of this obvious spin every once in a while. It's so obvious and it's quite dispicable to me, but I only read about that on Aggie message boards.
A&M really needs to get that journalism department back. find some allys in the media that can fight back a little bit in the mean time... Fwd OP to Clay Travis maybe?
