After changing to "SEC style" they promoted all last year, Mack is now saying "we're going Oregon style." Article from FWST:
Texas football coach Mack Brown seeks to speed up the Longhorns’ pace of play during spring drills, which begin Thursday in Austin.
But only the team’s tempo is expected to change, not its focus on a physical ground game that is expected to incorporate more carries from quarterback David Ash to complement the efforts of running backs Johnathan Gray, Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron.
The Longhorns, who will be the first Big 12 team to open spring drills, will cap their spring session with an Orange-White game on March 30 in Austin (6:30 p.m., Longhorn Network).
“We want to run a similar offense, but do it from no-huddle and try to keep the same personnel on the field,” said Brown, whose team is coming off a 9-4 season. “We changed so much personnel over the last couple of years that we felt like it gave defenses a chance to match with us in packages. So we’re trying to get a group on the field and keep them on the field and run a lot of different plays and formations from the same personnel so the defense cannot rest.”
Brown said the Longhorns seek to emulate what Oregon has done in recent seasons while playing in four consecutive BCS bowl games under former coach Chip Kelly.
“We’re not going to be the option-type team like Oregon, but we’re going to run their tempo,” Brown said. “You still want to be physical. But we’re going to do it without huddling and try to do it with the same personnel.”
“All of our jobs are always open,” Brown said. “Very honestly, we’re going to play the best players.”
Lots of fail happening over on the forty acres these days.
Fast and physical with more qb runs, it sounds like they're "going Texas A&M style"
“Very honestly, we’re going to play the best players.” Poor bastard. Ash will get killed and Case will have to come in. YOU GO GIRL!
Anyone else think this could be an attempt for mack to buy himself a few more years so his new system can be "adopted?"
I don't feel sorry for that DUMPSTER FIRE of a program. Let it burn and keep Mack Brown.
As long as they don't change to a winning style, I'm OK with this.
They're basically running SEC football at Oregon pace.
I don't see how this will even be remotely stoppable. Great move by Mack Brown. Surprised he didn't do it sooner.
They dont have the personnel to run that type of offense.
Just run a simple spread for crying out loud.
It will take a pressure off the QB and the OL, two places that are weak points for them due to erratic play.
THEY CRACKED THE CODE!
So the most maligned S&C coach in the nation tis expected to get them in shape to run the fastest, most punishing pace of offense in the nation? I doubt mad dog gets the memo, much less that they actually run up tempo sustainably. Boggles my.mind that Mack thinks he can just adopt a scheme completely perpendicular to what he's been doing in spring ball.
At least last year.when he said they wanted.to be SEC style, that was kind of a PR move for them to say they were already playing like an SEC team. Most SEC offenses are pretty inept on their own and rely on the defense to put them in good position,.which actually fits what texas did last year. The catch though is they went 8-4 regular season against the big 12. SEC style football is impressive when you play it with an SEC caliber schedule.
Mack is dead in the water if he's just trying to emulate everyone else. Love it!
I think the most successful of his styles was when he clapped the cows to wins. If he would just work on "going Oregon" on his clapping tempo, sip could once again set their sites on dominating Baylor.
they will have the record for fastest 3 and outs
" Manziel is “a good kid, an honest kid. He has his heart in the right place.”
Chancellor, Texas A&M
They will be young this year, Mack is building on good things.
Let me see if I understand this. Basically they are going to do stuff that's "good" and not do stuff that's "bad."
"Goddamn it, Mack! You're a goddamn genius! This is the most outstanding answer I have ever heard. You must have a goddamn I.Q. of 160. You are goddamn gifted, Private Brown!"
