2-11, 19 yards and a pick last Saturday. That pretty much has been Matt Davis for over a year now. Is he developing? Is he ever going to be a viable option?
Aubs? Thoughts? At the risk of upsetting your business partner and colleague, can you objectively break down what Davis is or isn't doing? At this rate, Sumlin won't have patience long. Did Sumlin offer Davis at UH?
Kenny Hill made the right choice to sign with A&M. Can't wait to see him compete in August.
After hearing about Matty D's performance...Kenny might actually have a shot at the back up...
“Honestly [tu's offer] doesn’t really matter though because I won’t go there. I won’t even visit." “I want to play big time ball in the SEC"
Playmaker sent an interesting text just a minute ago. I agree, we need to see Davis run in live action. We need to determine if he can be a threat with his feet. That's not really what scrimmages and practices are geared towards. And obviously we have not seen him in a game yet. If he can run some, he could be a viable backup guy for some sub time. His accuracy issues has me really concerned. Even in HS he was a 50% completion guy. That's not going to cut it in Sumlin's system. Hope he continues to progress and improve.
He had a great shot to be the #2 the minute he committed. This is what Sumlin and Spiv have been telling Kenny all winter. Thats why he was a priority recruit even when wavering. It's true, he's got a great shot. I think he's in the cat bird seat to win the backup job by conference

Seems like a heck of an athlete, but you're right, his accuracy has always been the question.
I bet he could make it onto the field at another role much like Tannehill did. However, he did work out with the 2's who might have just been dropping that day. The QB's weren't exactly making waves in accuracy even with the ones.
Yeah, the wildcard for Davis is whether or not he's an elite threat running the ball. If he is, then perhaps that can make up for his... let's say inconsistent accuracy.
But judging based just on what we've seen, it's hard to be impressed with Davis. His passes are just wildly erratic most of the time. Of course this time a year ago you could say the same about Manziel. He was more accurate than Davis but he didn't exactly look great throwing the ball either.
I said this in a mailbag a while back but I do think Hill could have a decent shot at being the backup, of course we can't say that for sure until we see him in person in the fall, but he already knows the system and he's an accurate thrower.

I'm just not 100% comfortable with having him burn his shirt doing mop-up.
Then again, it's not like we have something to lose. If Johnny is gone and Kenny is the straight-heir as a true Sophomore, then getting him reps as a true fish wouldn't be the worst thing in the world with guys like Hansen and Kyler on the horizon.
It bothers me, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea.
Remember when @Daddy98 demanded for Davis to start over Manziel after the Florida game? That was some funny sh!t then but especially now.
Love you PP. ha
Can he play safety?
I've said a couple of times that when the coaches have talked to big money boosters about the QB position that Matt Davis' name is not brought up. Perhaps we're seeing why.
His stats were bad in high school.

Switch him to D.
Fair posts benny. As ive said just like in high school he is a high twitch athlete who wants to bounce in the pocket. Qb gurus will often hog tie a qbs feet so he cant do this. Its causes accuracy issues in a bad way. You have to set your base to throw accurately in any sport. Baseball football darts. Doesnt matter. It starts there.
Now matt can be a winner for us if he can complete in the high 50s if he can really run. But he'll need to show that this fall.
Love the young man. He can do it with hard work and excellent coaching.
