Sorry I'm on my phone and don't have a link but there's a CBS sports article about them switching to a 3-4 defense basically because they can't recruit any good DL. Is this legit? Have the Stoops bros ever coached a 3-4?
They cant recruit LBs either..
I'm glad Mr. A&M didn't work out.
SEC SEC SEC!!!
I'd go get deon hollins
I was on a flight Sunday from OKC to Houston with a kid from Port A. He had taken an official to OU. Looked like a DT, but not sure who it was.
Romar I think is his name. Committed to OU. Was the 9 th DT from Texas that they offered. Not very good.
We flipped their ONE lb commit and they're switching to a 3-4?
Oh wait, we took all the DL they wanted too. ... but Huggins might qualify for them, right? Probably not.
This kid said he hadn't committed yet but it was between OU, TCU, and LSU.
This makes so little sense. Just because you only have three lineman on the field doesn't make it easier to find those guys. It's harder to find those long guys with big lower bodies to establish your line of scrimmage. There aren't a lot of true nose tackles that can play a zero technique out there and there are even less guys who want to do it. They don't have a Prevot, Hall, or Hollins Jr in this class and didn't seem to have great pass rushers on their roster. How will they ever get pressure? Desperation is ugly.
Ags, LSU, tu, tcu all run a 4-3. Guys like Hollins will be attracted to the Sooners. Those guys are easy to find in Texas too.
You are right about the NT, but in that conference, I don't think you need your traditional 3-4 d-lineman size.
Edge rushers with a first step like Hollins aren't easy to find anywhere. Much less in Texas.
You absolutely have to have traditional size up front. Look at what WVU does offensively. They run the ball. Baylor has found a running game. That's the next step for these air raid spread offenses. You better be able to stop the run without walking a safety up or you can just pack it up and go home.
TCU is a 4-2-5 team. Just saying.

If true, it's a dumb move by Stoops. RC and Sherman got killed trying to recruit kids to the 3-4. It was the main reason we lost Malcolm Brown. If he cant sign DTs now, he's gou g to signing the bottom of the barrel after this. OU aint Alabama and Stoops isn't Nic Saban, so I don't want to hear about how it doesn't stop Saban from doing so.
Maybe posting's just not your game. I know, let's have a spelling contest.
I remember when we recruited Malcom Brown last year, OU coaches were hitting him hard with the "DTs are there to get beat up in the 3-4" message. We should use their words against them.
I don't think so, but their LB coach, Kish, has been with Mike Stoops for years (was his DC at Az and had been a DC at a few previous stops). He's an old guy with a lot of experience (he's hurting them in recruiting though, I think). They also, while having a 4-3 as thier base over the years, have used a lot of odd fronts and play a lot of 3-3-5 and dime packages in the Big12 already and have been putting in an edge rushing OLB/Jack/Joker in on 3rd downs for years... so I don't think the transition is going to be that hard for Bob /Mike /Kish... I just didn't think they had enough LBs right now to switch to a 3-4 as thier base. Likely, this is as much of a recruiting/ PR strategy to attract some OLBs as it is a strategy for the Big12 offenses they face and their recent inability to attract DL.
Tech and 0u making this 3-4 move now, with WVU and TCU using more 4-2-5... anything to get more speed on the field. I suspect more to come. I think Von Miller and DeRuyter's impact in two seasons in that league had a little bit of an impact... Kingsbury's last team at UH had Brian Stewart running a 3-4 and they went undefeated as well.
Bob Stoops is trying to recruit RBs who flip over defenders. I saw it on televison. Hello.
" Manziel is “a good kid, an honest kid. He has his heart in the right place.”
Chancellor, Texas A&M
I was waiting for someone to refer to that ad. Hello.
That ad for phone service gave blow-U a ton of publicity, and helped psychologically impress young kids with the notion that playing at blow-U is something wonderful. Maybe someday A&M will get similar free positive publicity/brand awareness boost.
You need quite a large man to play nose in a 3-4. hardest position to recruit, all work and no glory.
