Saw that he coached at aTm in 2011 but haven't heard good things about him despite a solid resume. Good coach or recruiter? Colorado just hired him as WR coach fwiw.
You could do better on both fronts. Our WR's took a HUGE step backwards, last year. And his recruiting was, literally, nonexistent.
Nice guy, though.
lazy. didnt hit the road recruiting and just didnt seem that motivated to do the job while he was here. had the resume but didnt back it up. could have been the laid back approach of the entire staff but thats how he was when he was here.
USMC- Breaking shit since 1775
Was not good here. hope Colorado can figure it out, like seeing the Buffs do well.
Let's just say we were not sad at all to see him leave.

When I saw he was going to Colorado, I was not excited for you guys. Like it was states above, our WR play was below averagely at year especially when you compare it to how well our guys performed this year. Hopefully it was just a reflection of the poor leadership we had in place and he raises his bar out there.
His year here we led the NCAA in dropped passes. That was sandwiched between two excellent coaches. Sad for yall
He did a fantastic job teaching our receivers how to drop passes.
I still think he ruined Jeff Fuller.
Good luck this year, but think of us every time a ball falls off stone hands.
But if you are looking for someone to draw out a plan to a recruit on how he will be used done on a chalkboard, Walters is your guy. ;)
" Manziel is “a good kid, an honest kid. He has his heart in the right place.”
Chancellor, Texas A&M
Not a popular name around here. Mike Sherman brought in former A&M OC and former Tulsa and Louisville HC Steve Kragthrorpe to coach our WRs, but his wife had been very ill. So, shortly before fall camp started, Coach Krags decided to leave the program (he took a job at LSU a few months later and then he himself was diagnosed with Parkinson's). Sherman really had to scramble and reach for a replacement right before the season started and he found a Belitnikof winner coaching at the D2 (not even FCS) Indiana State Sycamores. Sounded like a good find at the time but D2 in Indiana is a bit of a reach for A&M. Young guy, might be hungry, might be a good recruiter Sherman's offense staff did boast a lot of NFL guys. Also, we had a top 10 offense in the nation the previous two seasons and had a sure-fire NFL WR in Jeff Fuller, and were pre-season top-10 that year. Well, our WR's dropped more balls than I've ever seen - to the point that Fuller didn't even get drafted. We lost 2nd half leads in almost every game and dropped balls (as well as some inopprotune INTs by Tannehill, who advertised passes to Fuller WAY too much) were the main culprit.
Honestly, I'm not sure how much blame you can put on Walters for our WRs' regression last year because he wasn't here very long.. and as far as recruiting, he wasn't here for a full recuiting cycle so it might not be fair to say he sucked, but I don't recall his name ever coming up one time with recruits. Not once. I think most fans that really follow this stuff were not upset to see him move on. I was actually surprised that NC State picked him up. Maybe he'll do better at Colorado, it'll be his 3rd season at a BCS school.
Jeff Fuller ruined Jeff Fuller..... no one to blame but his own lazy, unfocussed ass.
Our wr were really good before he got here. They stunk up the place while he was here. Now, they're really good again. Take from that what you will.
Under his supervision, they dropped passes like not A&M team I have ever seen, ran lazy routes, and looked very uninsipired. In all areas, we are now 180 degrees opposite of that.
Behind Auburn hiring JB Grimes, I think Colorado hiring Troy Walters is the single worst position coach hire this offseason.
Are you kidding? I could hear that arrow a mile away.
Did he recruit Jimmy Gilbert to CU?
No and no.
