I think it's pretty obvious that IF we decide to expand, it will be in N. Carolina and Virginia. That said, you can't argue that UNC wouldn't be the preference over NC St. But I do see a lot of quality debate in the UVa vs Va Tech department.
Personally, I would like UVa because of their basketball rep, their ability to draw the state and (though it may/may not really matter) they have a superior academic reputation. All three things that the SEC needs to improve. I fully get that Va Tech has a better football rep and a larger alumni base, so I don't knock those who prefer them. I just see UVa as a better addition for the overall package that the SEC wants to promote.
I think Markets are the bigger need when it comes to conference play. IIRC, VTech has the bigger market over UVA.
I'm not sold on academics when it comes to an athletic conference. VTech has better athletics, better traditions, and a more passionate fanbase. In short, they are a better "SEC Program" than UVA. However, the market size is what adds value to the conference over the long term.
“Honestly [tu's offer] doesn’t really matter though because I won’t go there. I won’t even visit." “I want to play big time ball in the SEC"
My understanding is that either one would bring the state of Va, as far as markets are concerned. So that would make it a wash for either program. Am I wrong on that? Does Va Tech bring the Va market better than UVa?
UNC is the obvious choice and most valuable target the SEC has remaining.
I understand Va Tech has had a pretty good run recently but I thought UVA was more valuable.

Guess I'm the only one favoring NC State and VT or Clemson. Those seem to be the best fits to me. Definitely need some basketball help, with us completely imploding for the near future
North Carolina is one of the top 10 brands in college athletics. If you have an opportunity to add them to your conference, you do it in a heartbeat.
I think if UVA is added or any other eastern school it will be transformative and the school will trend towards SEC culture. Very similar to Vandy and would benefit from a move that would invigorate their program. I think a&m and Mizzou will both eventually become more "southern" over time.
