We need to figure this out. 2nd largest school in the conference. We need to start winning soon.
Ole Miss: 25,000
Mississippi State: 22,604
South Carolina: 34,513
Texas A&M: 15,000
We all know the truth behind spring games. We know they aren't really games. We know that they are more of a dog and pony show. Fans might say they'r
Wow mizzou even had more.
Never understood why we can't get more to the spring game. We need someone in the know to figure it out
probably has something to do with marketing and winning....two things A&M hasn't been good at lately
One thing was the spring game was about as entertaining as Olympic handball under Sherman. To this day I can't explain the scoring and hated the PA guy saying every two minutes - that is a "5 yard gain by the offense - 2 points, fumble recovery by the defense, subtract 5, net loss of 3 points for the offense."
1. We ought to just turn Friday Night Lights into the Spring Game.
2. Have it on Parents Weekend.
Exactly. Maybe everyone knew that we'd have the student section blocked off so no one could get in the shade.
Maybe the people in Alabama aand Arkansas just have nothing else to do
i imagine there were some folks who only made it out to one of the 3 public scrimmages... i couldn't attend any of them so i don't know if there were enough at the prior two to really impact the spring attendance if you summed them all (minus your guesstimate of how many you think made it to more than one of them), but it seems like that would have played a role in depressing our spring game number.
Yup. Limit it to one public scrimmage. That should increase attendance. Market the shit out of the event in a cheap way and get people out there.
...who the heck seriously knows except God, and Sumlin. ~ Aggiemom6
I know it would help to have the spring game on the same weekend as parents' weekend and ring weekend, but local businesses would also hate to have all three on the same weekend
I went back for the spring game and most of the people I know still there had no idea about it. It's pretty much like it is for basketball, unless you're a diehard A&M sports fan and follow any of these sites, people don't know when anything's goin on. I'm not saying they all would've gone anyways...but the fact that these things aren't thrown in front of students without them having to look it up is the problem. The scrimmage format isn't really entertaining either. I understand we didn't have the depth necessary but Fran's spring game style of drafting would be much more appealing. Letting Showers and Manziel be the team captains and playing it like a real game would've been pretty cool.

Man no wonder we didn't pick up many commits. What a shitty turnout. I can't imagine the atmosphere was very good at all.
Atmosphere sucked. Boring, no band, no student section. I bet Friday Night Lights was much more entertaining.
We really do need to figure out something. Having a real game makes a big difference. Marketing more/better would help. Figuring out a way to pump up the atmosphere would help as well.
They had some good promotions where they gave out some legit prizes. Market those better.

Why? What's the point? If having 3 events divided our attendance record up to artificially depress the attendance at the Maroon and White game--who cares?
If 45,000 people are going to make it to one event or 15,000 make it to three events, it really doesn't matter in the long run, except for our placement on lists like this. I've never once heard a coach or admin type state that their goal was to increase attendence at the spring game.
For those that argue that it is better for recruiting to have 40-50K at the game to impress the recruits, I would say that it would be to our advantage to have multiple scrimmages and get more of the recruits to attend. How many guys had prom or track committments that weekend and didn't attend? I'll bet a few of the M&W game no shows made it to FNL.
Truth be told, I don't really care one way or another. But I think, making a change for the sole reason of improving our attendance standing of SEC spring games is rediculous. Wins in the fall--that's the only standing that I care about.
The true test of a man's intelligence is how much he agrees with you.
Practice? You talking about practice?
Which will be the biggest factor in higher spring game attendances, more recruits coming, and higher caliber commitments. It's simple, WIN.
The answer is simple.
1. Bring cheerleaders, new uniforms, and beer to Kyle
2. Market the hell out of the game
You are either going to be a leader or not. to be a leader, you throw your shoulders back, tits to the sky, head up, cock out.
What's the point of this, though? Just to get numbers up? The way we had it now is better for recruits. Not all of them can make it one weekend or the other. I like the idea of having 2 separate open games.
Keep FNL and the M&W game, but market both better.
If recruits can't make the event then they can come to a practice. It hurts us to have a mediocre showing at 3 events instead of a huge one at one--especially when the schools we recruit against pack theirs
I'd bet money if we had 40,000 plus we'd have gotten some of the defensive players to commit. 15,000 is an embarrassment
Go look up Nick Saban's feelings on spring game attendance and it's effect on recruits. Also remember that his 1st year he went 7-6 and still finished with #1 recruiting class.
Oh yeah I bet all the geeks dressed up in corps gear in the band really pep up all the recruits
Taking the SEC and Texas A&M to the next level....
Move it up a month. Too dang hot.
If you can't stand an April afternoon heat, you don't need to live in Texas
