King James putting in work with Dream.
Back in the day, I used to work at WTAW and our sports broadcaster couldn't make it for the Rockets media day one Fall, so they sent me. Just an amazing experience for me in the 80s to stand out there on the court and interview those guys, particularly Hakeem. I don't think people really understand what enormous humans they are until you stand next to them.
But as a Spurs fan, I hated him. :)
Lebron appears so robotic compared to Hakeem.
Loved " Akeem " Bach in UH days! Gotta love the DREAM SHAKE! Looks pretty damn athletic at 50!
Damn...the Dream looks like he could still be playing. Thanks for posting.
Hakeem is my favorite basketball player of all time. Glad to see he still has it.
When I was a kid I was in the cereal aisle at Randalls. I picked out my cereal and turned to go back to my mom's cart. I ran into a man walking down the aisle. I fell backwards and looked up at Hakeem standing there smiling at me. He reached down and said "Come here little man." (I didn't understand a word but that's what my mom tells me). He picked me up and signed my box of Honey Nut Cheerios with a pen my mom had. Needless to say I was pumped. A few weeks later I got to go to Rockets vs. Lakers and sit at my grandfathers floor seats. Hakeem recognized me and pulled me out onto the court during warm ups and picked me up and let me dunk on the basket. One of the best moments of my life.
The Dream is the best of all time. Not really a debate

Awesome story. Never a doubt that he was one of the greatest of all time. While I do not have a cool story meeting him I did get to watch the Rockets win their 2nd Championship on TV in Amsterdam in Dutch at about 4am. My roommate over there was a Rockets fan too so we partied that night, watched the game until the sun came up and took our Int'l Mktg final a couple hours later. Good times!
No doubt! Watching him on these videos brings back memories...nobody will quite ever do the Dreamshake.
This except for Jordan of course..... only if Ralph Sampson could have stayed healthy Hakeem could have had a few more Championships on his belt.
Michael Jordan said if he were starting a team he would choose Hakeem as his center. That about says it all.
Man he is just so smooth. Great video.
5th best C of all time.

I'll cut you.
It's all Rockets fans have to hold onto.
I'm 42 and I put a dream shake on a 6'5" 230+lb 20-something in our last game. Worked like charm, as all that was between me and the bucket was 3 feet of clear skies.
Thank you, Dream.
Hakeem isnt the GCOAT lol
Whatever, he changed the center position! Best ever at what he does!
I'm just reminiscing about Hakeem's greatness...and mine, you doof. That name happens to bring back great memories to old school ballers, like myself. Show some respect.
I got to scrimmage with some Rockets back in the 90s. Never got to play with Hakeem, but guys were telling me he isn't even 6'10'' even though he was listed at 7'.
Now think about that when he had to face guys like Abdul Jabbar, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Robert Parish, Shaq and other legitimate big men (unlike what is in the game today).
Hakeem was underrated even with the accolades he received. He was a very quick leaper too.
How so? He was a bad ass MFer, I'll give you that, but elaborate...
*4a. Shaquille O'Neal (do not waste your breath with silly "HE COULDNT SHOOT THEM FREE THROWS!!!" arguments. 4 rings, Finals with 3 different teams, maybe most dominant C ever during his absolute peak. Though I admit it's basically a toss up...)
*4b. The Dream (I love him - any basketball fan does - must be noted he got his rings while Jordan was suspended for gamb..I mean playing AA baseball.)
Don't forget that 4b got a ring from beating 4a. And 4b wasn't slowed down in the least by 4a's presence during that series.
Also, 4b beat 1 in the only playoff series I can remember the two playing in ('86 WCF).
And f you with that Jordan crap. Shaquille couldn't win anything without a Kobe or a DWade supplementing his free throw disabilities.

I generously ranked Shaq and The Dream 4a and 4b - please remember, Hakeem was in his absolute prime and Shaq was 22 years old at the time (and the 2nd best player on his team was Penny Hardaway. The 3rd? Nick fugging Anderson)
When Hakeem "beat" Kareem, Kareem was 39 years old, though he was still averaging 23 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assts and 2 blocks a game.
When Hakeem was 39 years old - 7 pts, 6 rebounds, 1 block playing for the Toronto Raptors.
I really do love Hakeem, but it is what it is.
