I want us to be practicing for Arkansas all week and just come out and get the backups in early.
I like it.
Yep. Nothing fancy. Get the w and get out.
if you watched the Arizona game, you would know they are right at Savannah State's level
SEC SEC SEC!!!
Hopefully T-Will only has 1 return
I want to see JFF find open receivers and hit them in stride.
I want to see TWill make SCSU look like a 5A defense and break off a huge run or two.
I want to see CMike run with intensity and look like he's pissed off.
I want to see JFF and TJ look like they have some chemistry.
I want to see a LB not named porter step up to the plate and make some big plays.
I want to see the secondary lock some receivers down.
I want to see the OLine open some gaping holes in the run game.
I want to see at least two forced turnovers.
These are the biggest issues so far and where we need to see the most improvement. Any win is a win, but it's also a wasted opportunity if we win with JFF's feet and don't work on some of the above issues.
Less than 3 scrambles by Manziel. Zero penalties. Force turnovers
This times infinity.
We dont need injuries or tired players, it is a long season.
I would like to see a few variations of the pistol formation and hopefully CMike can get some momentum going before Arkansas. He is a downhill runner that doesn't excel running out of shotgun formations, but last year he had over 200 rushing yards in the first half against Arkansas so we need to find a way to utilize him in this offense.
That's my only real concern now that we know we stretch defenses with the deep ball.
1. No Injuries- self explanatory considering our lack of depth
2. Want to See JFF sit in the pocket and make his reads quicker and make progress in going thru his entire progression before even thinking about tucking it and running. I think the biggest thing that's slowing down our run game right now is that teams are more concerned about containing the QB scramble and our Running Backs than they are about us beating them thru the air. KK even said that's not something he's been used to when he was at Houston or even when he played at Tech I would imagine. SMU used their base 3-4 against our 4 wide set's and dared us to throw it to beat them. We were able to do that because SMU has terrible athletes on defense. For this offense to really go, we got to have JFF making quick reads from the pocket and then making accurate throws to hit guys in stride or "throw them open"... Made progress from week one to week two and I'd expect this to be a season long progression for a young QB in a new system. Just need to keep making progress from game to game.
3. OLine needs to have less mental mistakes- physical ability aside, the Oline has had too many false starts, putting us behind the chains, and I've seen them turn guys loose in pass protection, not because they got physically beat but because they didnt seem to understand their blocking assignment. It's hard to get a guy like JFF to learn the lesson of staying in the pocket, if guys like 6'8 Margus Hunt are running free at you, right up the middle because big Ced, turns that guy loose for the running back to try to block... cant have that. I've seen it a couple of times from different guys in the first two games.
4. Get the Backups some quality reps- we need to take care of business early and get our backups some quality reps. We got 12 straight games, with the majority of our tougher games toward the end of the season, and we need to take care of business early so we can get our starters some rest and let the backups get some good game experience. Honestly, our second and 3rd team guys should be more than competitive against SCState...
