I'm a young guy and i've always seemed to like the Texas A&M program. As an SEC guy last year when you and Missouri joined the conference I expected both schools to struggle a little bit. While Missouri has definitely struggled you guys have had a great year with Mr. Johnny Football. Kids fun to watch. I wish you guys played Texas this year because i'd love to see a beatdown on Texas SEC style. Hopefully we can solve our own problems and meet you guys in the SEC champ in a few years. You're probably my favorite team in the west ... that is until we start playing each other. Then we probably won't be so friendly lol Represent well in the Bowl!
SEC SEC SEC!!!
Thanks GO. My wife's family are big Tennessee fans, and I've adopted the Vols as my second team. We went to a game in Neyland stadium vs Notre Dame several years ago. We'll be up there again one day. Good luck with your coaching search. Does the Gruden rumor have any legs?
Hey, Go, I've always liked (the real) UT as well. We picked up one of out favorite QBs from y'all in Brandon Stewart.
He wasn't Peyton Manning, but he was sure fun to watch!
And if you were thinking of asking the answer is NO. You can't have Sumlin, Kingsbury or Snyder. I hope you guys hire Gruden. Nothing like bringing in a NFL guy to coach college. We know all about that.

No need to be an ass.
Geez, just stfu you frickin embarrassment
good bull OP, appreciate it
The Gruden rumor actually does have legs. He started his career at Tennessee and it would make the family happy (wife went to Tennessee). He has actually told people that he has some serious interest but I think that in order to get him we'd definitely have to dish out some serious money and give him major control. Gruden want Gruden get. He's been asking around about college coaching so he is seriously considering the job. Those are all the rumors that are actually true. I can't say I think that it will happen but there is a shot. It would be a very exciting hire. Recruiting would sky rocket and i'm sure he'd bring a great staff with him. Dooley did some great things as far as laying the foundation and bringing back some integrity but he just wasn't the right guy for the job. Maybe if we put Tyler Bray through Gruden's QB camp he'll finally wakeup and become what he has the potential to be.
Who are you guys hiring?
Why not James Franklin?

Bray's in the draft isn't he?
Agreed, that was complete crap.
Franklin would be a great hire. Having said that, I'm not convinced that the Vols can get him. One year ago, Vandy extended his contract and reportedly increased his salary to $3 million. Vols would have to overpay him, and they are strapped for cash at the moment.
Well with the coaching change Bray Hunter and possibly Patterson will all probably leave. All 3 have incredible talent but they are probably the most frustrating "stars" i've ever seen play for Tennessee. They've never really made THE play that we've needed. All 3 make horrendous mistakes that are flat out dumb sometimes. As far as hiring James Franklin i'd say that's a big NO lol I don't believe anyone wants to hire him. We all agree that he's a good coach but he negatively recruits Knoxville like it's Austin Texas or something. I don't think he'll stay at Vanderbilt too long but I can sit here and tell you that hiring him would anger many vols fans. I don't think he wants to come to Tennessee anyway.
I've asked this before, but what about Fedora?
Fedora is not being mentioned much at all. If we miss on our first targets then his name might start picking up. I'd rather have him than Al Golden. I have no idea why people think so highly of him. We need a home run hire this time around. No more unproven or questionable character hires. No more Kiffins.
Yea, three bad coaches in a row would be devastating. I hope y'all get a home run hire, I want to see y'all win the East every year. Is Gruden really a possibility?
Gruden is a real possibility. Most people that don't follow Tennessee think there's no way that it will happen but our own 247 staff has said it's definitely a possibilityand they only report the truth. The biggest obstacles are money and the year round stress of being a college coach that would be new for Gruden. There are things working in our favor though with Gruden having many connections to Tennessee. We have some big donors pretty much saying that they will do whatever they need to in order to get Gruden and staff to Knoxville. It could happen.
That's taking a big risk though, isn't it? He was a great NFL coach, but the same isn't guaranteed in college football. What's your take on it?
My take is that recruiting would sky rocket and our talent level would go way up. There would be a buzz around the program that we haven't had in many long painful years. He would bring a very good staff with him. It would be risky but if a man can coach, a man can coach. I would be very happy with the hire. It would be better to hire Gruden and it fail than hire an unproven coach and it fail. Gruden would atleast bring top talent to the program and we would be relevant again. We're just hungry for some success. I can't stand going to the Florida message boards and seeing them all talking trash about us when none of our people even go over there and say anything. My top 2 favorite hires right now would be Gruden and Charlie Strong. I'd be okay with Gus Malzahn, Fedora and Gary Patterson.
I think he would be successful if he brought in a great staff. There is no doubt that he would recruit lights out. I would like to see y'all shut up Florida fans as well.

Gruden will have an instant impact in recruiting. But if wins don't start to pile up by the end of yr 2, the recruiting will peeter out.
With no offense meant, I heard Franklin dismissed a UT offer pretty handily. He's got vandy moving forward, and jumping ship to the in state rival would be a very Kiffen move.
Also I thought UT has quite a few ex-coaches still on the payroll, can they afford a big hire like Gruden?
why would recruiting sky rocket?
He's an NFL coach. He's never recruited in 15 years... He's not on his game. Very risky..
Can he coach is the main deal. Then he'll have to recruit too.
Tennessee has been and will be a great job. But a lot of out of state recruiting hurts Tennessee because they have to take risky kids and that's what you see a lot of times.
I thought Bray was a sr. If he's a jr, that's the first step is get him to come back.
If you are strapped for cash, Gruden, STrong, Fedora will all cost a lot. Their buyouts are huge and Gruden is making 4.2 at MNF. Seriously...
It wouldn't surprise me if James Franklin rejected a UT offer but I don't think we've offered him in this particular coaching search.... you may be referring to one of the other coaching searches we've had in the past 6 years
Right now the word is that we do not have a lot of money in reserve but we've had Donors say they'd do anything they'd need to to make Jon Gruden our coach. Recruiting would sky rocket because all of those kids watching Monday Night Football and Gruden's QB camp would have a shot to play for that guy. How much fun does he have on those 2 shows? Kids know his name and like his fiery personality. Recruiting would be the least of my worries if Gruden came. I would be worried about how does he adapt to coaching younger men and not having quite as much time through the weeks to work with them. It would be a huge name hire that would boost recruiting but I do agree that the hire would be risky because he hasn't proven anything in college.
And to be honest a lot of Tenn fans are about tired of Bray. I love his ability but lets be honest. He is not consistent and he does way too many things that cause headaches. If your qb is the one causing headaches there is a problem. Before this year I was very fired up about having Bray Hunter Patterson and Rogers. Rogers was the best receiver in that group and didn't play a snap for us this year. Patterson is very dynamic but needs to develop a lot of things. Hunter usually doesn't do much against good teams. Bray just doesn't get the job done sometimes. He played horrible against Vandy. We put in Worley and he looked much much more consistent and accurate. (with exception of interception on miscommunication) If you asked a lot of UT fans a lot of them would tell you they want Bray gone
This. Early success (or lack thereof) would make or break Gruden.
OP, did y'all really go after Gruden the last time around? If so, what happened?
