It seems the orangebloods are "hot" about A'shawn Robinson's flip to Alabama. Well, we just told them, hey horns:
SEC RULES. Gig 'em and RTR! We sure are glad to stand with A&M facing up to ut. It is a fun sport indeed. Good
luck to the Aggies in 2013 now the PREMIER program in the Lone Star State. Welcome to SEC, brothers, glad to have
you in the best league in the land.....
They had a source say it was a case of "negative recruiting":
“Alabama did a great job of getting in his head and laying it all out for him,” said a source at Arlington Heights. “They worked on him for a long time and worked on him hard, especially after they got him on a visit. They explained to him how he could come in and play a couple of different spots immediately if he put his mind to it and works hard.
“They sold him on playing for a team that constantly competes.”
The Longhorns also offered playing time. From the sound of it Alabama shot that, and many other ideas from Texas, down.
“There was also a lot of negative recruiting toward Texas taking place,” said the source. “This was the case with all schools, but especially Alabama. Like I said, they sold him on the ‘team that constantly competes for it all’ idea. They told him to look at what they are doing compared to what Texas is doing. They sold him on the idea of stability there.
“To me, they made it sound like Texas was going nowhere fast.”
Guess I don't see how that's anything more than just recruiting.
Thank you sir, glad to be part of the SEC finally.
You haven't heard? Bama must be cheating.
You know, because there's no logical reason a 3-time MNC winner should ever be able to take kids from a rapidly downward spiraling has been in a conference no one is interested in.
Apparently the truth really does hurt...
Your logic is boggling my mind
Texas is only interested in high-character kids with excellent grades.
Nevermind that their program has more drug-related incidents than the City of Miami. Nevermind that 2 of the dumbest players in the history of the NFL both went to Texas. and their program has a long history of getting kids in that couldn't get into a JUCO.
High character rocket scientists. We're Texas.
Mack: "You can't decommit because you're offer is pulled"
I agree with your statement. Given where the program is and Mack is going to retire a few years to late, It would not take much for any program to recruit against us at this point let alone Saban. I was surprised when Robinson committed to us, but not surprised he flipped to ALA.
Texas needs to work on development at this point because very few elite prospects will find their way to campus while Mack is still there.
Hookem for Life!
Keep up the good work, Aggies. You are making waves and I believe your program is beginning the process of being a
Top 10 program year-in and year-out. Welcome aboard.
We dont have to negative recruit against a program like Texas. Our positives right now are a million times better than their positives (which they have very little right now). Our positive recruiting actually takes care of our negative recruiting at the same time. When a prospect does a pro vs con breakdown the cons will stick out for the program of Texas alot bigger than its positives.

So what would they term the recruiting job Larry Porter did/is doing to steal Frank Herron at the last minute from LSU? It seems they are giving the hard sale on LSU's lack of academic prowess and pimping the LHN/ESPN connection to a kid wanting to be a journalism major.
i would term it using what little of the positives they have left to try and flip one from LSU. The job they did last year for Shiro Davis is giving them the confidence to go head to head again with LSU. Plus it is a good thing that ALA has beaten them down for the states elite guys which gives us a little room to poach.
Porter is an excellent recruiter so we need him to swing for the fences as Mack has always been reluctant to in the past for some stupid reason.
We will see.
Shiro Davis was bought, plain and simple.
"Only want kids that want to be longhorns."
Geez that was our mantra a few years ago
Right, but you already said the "negative recruiting" that Alabama did was just good recruiting. I was looking for a response from those who were crying foul over Saban's tactics.
That's not negative recruiting. Negative recruiting is saying "Everyone in College Station is racist." Pointing out to a kid that your primary competition sucks isn't negative recruiting, it's good recruiting.
Are you kidding? I could hear that arrow a mile away.
UT-Austin is a swimming/volleyball/golf school...... Everyone knows that.
Ashawn is a football player, therefore he is looking for a football school.
Rumor has it they are considering starting up a mens basketball program
also... first step would probably be to hire a coach.........
Porter is an excellent recruiter known for dealing with street agents.
Oh, but wait, that's another thing Longhorns claim to never touch with a 10-ft pole, despite the fact that many kids on their roster were "working with a street agent" before they committed to Texas when they, "were suddently talked out of it" by Mack.
How come Bamers can post here and I can't post on their boards?
At this point, i would imagine it is hard to find somebody who would cry foul, IMO. At least the people I surround myself with. I am sure the wackos who think otherwise have already jumped off the bridge.
Porter is new to me and only know what sites said from his time at LSU.
We need to use some of the money from the LHN to get these recruits. With Mack as coach, we need to buy as many people as we can since he can't develop anybody. It is only cheating, if you get caught. - It won't help us.
Only until the NCAA dissolves and the money wealthy programs start their own league with true Guidelines, Rules, and Penalties - Money and Street Agents will always be part of the peripherals of College Football and Basketball.
NCAA is a joke. We will see.
I wouldn't call it negative recruiting if it's true...
We're a dumpster fire.
I can think or worse
