Some very interesting points brought up by Burton on the new recruiting rules and the approach major programs like A&M and Texas might take with hiring outside talent to help with evaluations and the recruiting process in general.
Texas is limping to the finish of this recruiting cycle. To avoid this becoming a trend there are certain things the Horns must do to stay relevant on the recruiting trail.

So there's not any regulation on the amount of people? That's a scary thought. Are they going to be allowed to contact recruits? I feel like this plus the unlimited texting is going to go overboard.
I think it might at first, but recruiting is basically a market and it will even itself out eventually. Recruits will start telling schools they're out of the race earlier so that they're not getting hounded by people.
It's basically partially deregulating a market, there will be some dramatics at first but it will stabilize again and I think somewhere short of the "everybody has a talent evaluating staff" that most are predicting. Certainly schools are going to hire more people, but I don't think you'll see many teams effectively having a "GM" type person. Most college coaches are too much of control freaks for that to happen, and coaches are still the only ones who can make off campus trips.

How about not suck?
I agree. It is amazing how much winning solves all of those problems.

Hookem for Life!
sorry Bobby but it's too late for Mack. Hiring 10 more guys to watch video and lick stamps isn't gonna do it for you. It doesn't take a group of 15 professional talent evaluators on staff to see that you've screwed up at QB. Having fewer games on the LHN doesn't keep RSJ from bolting or A'shawn from switching.
Bobby plays a little loose with the facts:
1. Mack is the only coach to win a national championship - (Coker doesn't count). Why not?
2. "Of the major football programs, Texas is #1 academically" Rice doesn't play major college football anymore? Moved to the bowl championship group with Sam Houston?
Their entire program -- and the sycophants who constantly upgrade their recruits and advise that they tweak this or tweak that -- are a complete dumpster fire right now. It's Bowden and FSU, part II. Good luck with that.
Texas is garbage. They need to start over. Good news is...they won't.
He forgot to mention one more thing: compelling games.
Texas has Oklahoma scheduled as their biggest game of the year. It is a good rivalry game and regionally, folks will watch it.
What nationally relevant game do they have? Baylor? Purple Baylor? Panhandle Baylor?
The Kansas teams and Iowa State suck. West virginia? Oklahoma State is okay. Just okay.
That's the brunt of their schedule. There is no reason for a recruit to get excited week in and week out.
Remember their Thanksgiving game? How many recruits were there thinking, "get me the heck outta here. This sucks."
Plus with three of those snooze feat games being on LHN, recruits won't even be able to have their family watch them play.
Mack Browns pride has been the cause of decline at texas
Sounds almost as if Bobby is interviewing for one of the new jobs with that article.
Love it. Even that hoarn recognizes the LwN is toxic. And I believe he elliptically alludes to the fact that nobody gives 2 sheets about matchups involving 60% of the B-WTF. It's the line about focusing less on the 'Taco Bell commercial' and more on the game experience.
Newsflash, when texASS is losing to Iowa State, the Taco Bell commercial becomes the excitement component of the experience.
Everything he writes is tainted. Garbage.
Bobby Burton is National Analyst for 247Sports
Total bullshit title. He's a UT blowhard. Is he going to write a similar article for USC, UM, any other strong school that slipped this class?
Didn't reward bobby with reading his drivel. First rate non objective blowhard.

-- If you're gonna be a bear, BE A GRIZZLY! --
Same here. It's always bothered me knowing that I'm helping pay Burtons salary.
Is this guy serious? Meander got an offer bc they had a ton of decommits. He didn't fall though the cracks. This article from start to finish is pure garbage.
I stopped reading when I saw that they needed to improve their evaluation. What's that say about the rankings that inflate their recruiting classes?
Why would anyone on gigem read that? Take it to the horn board. Shocked he wrote an article like that and claims to be unbiased.
He was a "fast-rising senior"....that's the difference.
Meander rose so fast only the elite speed and guile of the Mad Scientist himself could track him down
This will be a nightmare for everyone The families, players coaches and recruiters! Aubrey I hope you are right That might take out this BS Drama.
