...Who you might be sitting next to. Earlier today was sitting next to this guy who I recognized but couldn't place. Turns out he was my SpeechCom prof at A&M and was the Character Coach/Chaplain under RC Slocum...Rick Rigsby for anyone there in the 90's. He was ousted with the rest of Slocum's staff. Knew RC, Sherman and Sumlin personally. He's now a motivational speaker and ordained minister. Really nice guy with some great insights on A&M and Aggie Football.
care to share any of that great insight?
He was the best recruiter on RCs staff.
Heard him speak at a FFA function when I was high school. Really good speaker and seemed like a great guy.
He really reinforced the recruiting advantage of being able to tell kids they will play in Tuscaloosas etc...vs the Manhattan KS and Waco's. Also told me story of how RC met him on a plane and explained that he wanted his legacy to not only be about wins/losses but what these kids would amount to from a character standpoint...hired on the spot and hence the title Character Coach. Finally, talked about how Sumlin got hired almost immediately after the RC firing....EDIT. Bunch of other stories too...just a cool guy with a lot of interesting life experiences.
I edited this based on the fact that apparently I missed a few details...so fair enough.

Not true re:Peterson.
I remember Big Daddy Rigsby, though.
Yeah, don't know one way or the other on the Peterson thing...just told me that on Sunday night Peterson was headed our way and then next you know he's headed to OU along with Summy getting the call to go work for OU as well.
Here's what I found when I googled it:
After considering schools such as Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, Arkansas, and Miami, he decided that he wanted to go to a school where he could be a difference-maker in a national championship run and narrowed his choices down to USC and Oklahoma.
His point was that we have lost entirely too many players to out of state programs like OU.
based on what we know of Sumlin would it seriously shock any of you if his hiring at OU didn't open the door for OU & Adrian?
Here is his web site, though he needs to update his picture. He is down to around 250 now (probably 75-100 pounds less than that picture). http://www.rickrigsby.com/

That's how I took it.
A). Sumlin was at OU for 12 months before AD committed
B). Sumlin was not the lead recruiter for AD
Just as I suspected.......................
Guys, my apologies if I did not fully catch all the details or remember all the specifics. We talked for over half an hour about a bunch of topics...my bad for not getting all the details 100% correct. Either way I enjoyed the conversation and the guy knows a lot about A&M.
No need to apologize, brant. We're just clearing up the Peterson situation.
I worked in the football office when Peterson was being recruited. Heard stories straight from the mouth of RB coach Lee Fobbs. Rode the elevator to the third floor of the Bright Complex just a few days from signing day. I can assure you that the Adrian Peterson/A&M stories that most people debunk are very much real.
Interesting stuff...I always find it interesting to hear about things that happen behind "closed doors".
What stories do they debunk? That was before I followed recruiting
