So you agree that the tables have turned
I wasn't referencing Hampton. Staff had a chance and passed. I'm making an overall statement that we need to be landing our top targets in the state. LSU consistently gets most of their top targets, losing some to Bama occasionally. Alabama also get's most of their top targets if Auburn doesn't get lucky.
We can't tolerate losses in our state. Solomon, Whitely, Garret, Cannon, and the like need to be Ags in our pocket unless we have an OOS stud that can replace them.
#10 class and 5th in our division, remember that.
“Honestly [tu's offer] doesn’t really matter though because I won’t go there. I won’t even visit." “I want to play big time ball in the SEC"
I never really got all hyped up on him. He's good, but I'm not crying over it. We got the 2 OLB's we wanted. Hoza is on another level, so its not fair to compare them. But if you compare Hampton and Walker, I'll take Walker. On film, Walker is more well-rounded and looks better physically. Hampton may be a "scalded dog", but Walker can get to the QB fast too, and he is more stout in run defense. Walker is also much more physical. Hoza is our Sam, Walker is our Will, and Whitley is who we want for Mike. Hampton just doesn't fit in the picture. It happens.
Don't think any of the non-homer Texas fans question the fact that Hampton was turned down by A&M. You also won't find many that question the fact that going forward, at best, every top recruit in the state is now a dogfight, with the reality that we're playing catch up on most of the top 2014 kids.
Big time grade risk is why Sumlin passed...
Agreed. Some people are going overboard. He's very good. Just not in what the coaches consider their top 3 and they feel good about getting the third on those, so there just isn't room for a 4th at this point.
Should make following recruiting much more interesting for both fan bases. Less locks and more battles!
A lot of OOS schools "offer" a kid like this, but the offer is more of a placeholder. They're trying to express interest while continuing to evaluate prospects. In other words, they're not actually offers as you might think of them. I seriously doubt LSU and Ohio State were actually looking for a committ.
i know its different staffs but the horns could have a pretty good lb core w/ jinkens and hampton both guys we supposedly spurned
Touché. Only difference here being that Sherman was rather used to being kicked in the nuts by Mack and, well, everybody. For Mack, this is all unfamiliar territory. Btw, who did Mack choose instead of Manziel? Ash? Face? Which one? Either way, it's sure got to feel good as a horn knowing the guy making those decisions is still in charge of your program. The future is bright in Austin. Am I right?
It's funny how alot of A&M posters are knocking on Jenkins and Hampton because we didn't accept their commitments. We thought they were both good enough to offer, but their spot got taken before they jumped on board (the LA LB for Jenkins, Walker and Hampton for Hampton). I think Jenkins would've been a needed pickup in the '12 class as the only true LBs we took were Richmond and Richardson (who some thought would be a DE). Richmond might not even be on the team anymore.
Like VY, Colt, Orakpo, Jamaal Charles???
1. We didn't accept his commitment because we got who we had rated higher
2. You're missing the point. The point is, Sumlin is owning Mack lately and it's beautiful after a decade of Sherman and Fran getting their asses handed to them by Mack
3. Jinkens is about 4'8" 135lbs. We didn't miss out on that guy. Sherman made that offer as part of his carpet bombing campaign and he wanted an in at Skyline.
But talk about missing the point. Enjoy our leftovers!
Are you kidding? I could hear that arrow a mile away.
How do you know that? Both Hampton and Walker got early offers. What if Hampton tried to commit before Walker? Guarantee most of you would be saying we have Hampton rated higher And you would cite his offer list, which is much better than Walker's right now.
I'm not saying one is better than the other, but unless you have direct knowledge of the staff's big board, I wouldn't talk in absolutes on who Sumlin has rated higher.
Seems like a similar situation to Mastro and the Savage. Importance seemed the same, but Mastro was a guarantee.
Because Taylor has said as much...
"How do you this? How do you that?"
What ACTUALLY HAPPENED was Hampton tried to commit, we said no thanks, and he committed to Texas. Anything else is pure conjecture.
Must've missed that.
I never said that didn't happen. I said we have no true idea who the staff had rated higher. Hamm probably has more insight on the subject, but I guess I missed it if he posted about it.
Remember, we will also have AJ, the LB transfer from TCU, who is really fast. I think AJ is the reason we turned Hampton down.
Really? Because he made that exact comment on a thread that you started...
"Good pick up IMO....As we know, Hampton wanted to be an Aggie. Limited spots and other players ahead on their board didn't allow things to work out the way Cam wanted."
Well there it is. Either skimmed too fast or didn't catch it.
No prob, man. I was just surprised you would have missed it.
Horns, we didnt take his commit. I shud know because I want snd still want us too. Bit of a grade risk.. great pickup. Bigger, better, and faster corey nelson..
