I'm still trying to figure out how such a talented and strong leg kicker can be so inconsistent. I mean you have to blame the kicker some but where is the coaching, how much time is spent coaching on mechanics, glad we are winning but whenever he comes out I feel that no one has confidence in him, including himself.
Do you really think we have a coach that is an expert on the mechanics of kicking?

It starts with Epperson! Why the hell is he holding the dang ball? Manziel should be the one holding it, and if you watch closely on replay it looks like Epperson leans the ball alittle bit towards him..
how many walk on kickers are invited to fall camp? at least 2 new walk ons.
how many kickers are on the active roster and why hasn't one of them walked on the field yet. Definition of insanity is beginning to apply here " committing the same "pointless " act over and over and expecting a different result"
Don't you think if sumlin had someone better he would play them? How many times has he said that the best players play and it doesn't matter who that is?
USMC- Breaking shit since 1775
Kicking is a mental game. Bertolet is apparently good enough in practice to keep his spot.
He is also great at kickoffs. Most go for 0 return. That helps us keep our starters fresh.
The thing is that he just looses it during games. Too much pressure? Is he not getting pressured during practice?
I'm betting it will be fixed after he gets 9 months to get his head on right ...
Agreed, I tink he will fix this in the off season.
SEC SEC SEC!!!
Every time he kicks, even on kickoffs, the ball slices right. It's something with his mechanics. His kicks aren't wild. He always misses right.
He's great on kickoffs.
The extra points are what kill me. Our local high school kicker hasn't missed one all year.
Its like the QB center exchange. it has to be automatic. It really shouldn't be that much to ask.

most holders hold the ball the way the kicker asks them to......and if you've ever kicked or coached kickers who have to kick off the ground then a slight ball lean "away" from the kicker is very normal to see.
it's mental with this kid.....he's a young guy in high pressure situations.....the maturity isn't there to overcome his mistakes (just like D. Harris talked about letting plays go before this year in the presser today).
it's confidence....once a kicker gets bit it's hard to get out of the funk.....just like a hitting slump in baseball or a pitcher not able to find location on the mound.
he will grow out of it....and it may happen before the season is over....it's like a Tex league single off the end of hte bat over the second basemans head.....wasn't pretty, but for whatever reason the mind resets and all the sudden things start falling your way.
he'll be fine....and he'll probably make some good money in the pros....he's just not there yet.
The problem is his plant foot. If it's too far in front of where the ball is placed (left heel beside the ball), he will push it right. Just the opposite for pulling it left (left foot ends up planted behind where ball is placed on ground).
I actually think your right about his plant foot. I think that is why he cuts left across the ball, which causes the ball to have a slice to the right. A lot like golf.
USMC, I now his kickoffs are great, I'm just saying every time he kicks off, it has that little slice. It just doesn't matter because he isn't really aiming at anything, and it goes deep as hell
Maybe a "slumpbuster" is in order here. And if Mike Leach was right, T Bert shouldn't have to travel far to find one. Although, I can visually attest to the fact that the gene pool has significantly improved since I attended classes on our campus. A roadie to Sam?
No to mention if Manziel was in there, what kind of fake plays could be runned. Defense would have to have a spy not rushing.

I agree, it pisses me the hell off. If he could kick worth a crap we would be 9-1 right now.
