Deadspin, Sarah Phillips, ESPN and Twitter

Is anybody else following this story that Deadspin broke yesterday? Absolutely bizarre.
The short story is that ESPN.com apparently hired some hot young columnist who wrote about sports and gambling. Problem is, they apparently never met her (they fired her last night after the story broke). And now nobody can untangle who she is, but her (his?) fingerprints are all over assorted messes from Fake John Madden to Condescending Wonka to Matt Prehm, the Oregon 247 publisher that's posted here.
It's a long story -- actually several stories now -- but if you have time, it's worth the read. This is absolutely one of the BEST stories of the year so far.
My wife runs direct marketing for a large retail company and is about to takeover the social media marketing. Which makes all this twitter stealing/scamming so much more FASCINATING. But when you add in that ESPN, the very embodiment of everything that's wrong with the sports news and media, it's like a slice of bacon fried gold!!!

The funny thing is that I had noticed Wonka promoting the Phillips feed the other day and thought to myself that they all must fall under the same roof. I just thought that made sense and didn't think anymore about it. Who would have guessed it was going to be this complicated.
