That's sort of my point though, it would be like skipping and running backwards being track events.

Or, it would just be like Track and Field. Gotta go with Sherm on this one, especially if you've never swum and trained competitively. Strong conditioned athletes and each stroke requires very different skills.

Yeah you could make the same argument for track and running short, medium, and long distance; normal running vs hurdles; triple jump vs long jump; etc. I know they're different and it takes different skills for each, but so does swimming. It's not like you can do hurdles in the pool

I do not understand your objection to Olympic swimming at all. At all. I get it, but I do not understand it. Think Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson convo in White Men Can't Jump (a classic).
