Finished building my AR last night

    Let me diagram it for you guys that aren't quite at the level of sophistication required to digest such razor wit...

    "Dr Pepper" is the screen name of an individual Gary is currently sparring with online.

    Gary throws out a reference to the "Dr" piece of said screen name and MOCKINGLY suggests a high level of intelligence in association.

    Don't feel too good though, Doc, CUZ BIG GARY IS ABOUT TO PULL THE RUG OUT FROM UNDER YOU!!!

    YOUR SCREEN NAME SUCKS AND IS THE NAME OF A POPULAR SODA!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

    Nothing left for the Gary to say, but WOW.

    Of course the outcome in that case was a cinch. The facts didn't compel answers to the hard questions. I do find it interesting/funny when that case is used to bolster an argument that the 2nd amendment protects one's right to possess arms like ARs and such.

    It's a really fascinating realm of legal discourse if you divorce yourself from all the emotional chaff.

    The 2nd Amendment is not amorphous. It is clear and concise. Via 200 years of liberal judicial constitutional interpretation, its meaning has eroded to the point that legal arguments over its current meaning cannot be understood without reference to case law. The result is a complete bastardization of our rights. The same can be said for most, if not all, provisions of our great Constitution, most notably the Commerce clause and the 10th Amendment.

    It is sad that when you apply Occam's Razor to many of these constitutional clauses you get a simple, effective result that is completely different than our current legal mutations. The Constitution was designed to protect our great nation from the evils of an overbearing government. This is the great sadness of our time and its deterioration will be directly tied to the deterioration of our once proud nation as know it. Our Founding Father's gave us a blueprint for a successful and glorious nation and all we've done is spend two centuries destroying that blueprint.

    I agree that the 2nd amendment is indeed amorphous to the word "arms" and that is the only thing amorphous about it. I believe that it was written that way intentionally. Our founding fathers were smart enough to look into their past, analyze their present & use that knowledge to project a pretty good idea as to what freedoms they needed to protect. They were by no means perfect but they did know what it was like to live a life under totalitarian rule. They also were in an age where they were seeing an advancement of "arms". Thus, they worded the 2nd amendment the way it was.....AMORPHOUS. A right to bear a knife, bow, slingshot, musket, .22 caliber, AR-15.....ect. That is why the Militia Acts of 1792 came into enactment. The best weapon available at that time was a musket or firelock(short of a cannon of course). I think the 2nd amendment Is better in it's "amorphous" state than the Militia Act of 1792.

    Just my divorced emotional opinion.

    The soul behind the 2nd Amendment (and the whole Bill of Rights) is to protect citizens from a tyrannical government. It would be pretty simple then to surmise that if a tyrannical government was to form, one of its first actions would be to disarm the people to nip insurrection in the bud. People see bills being proposed to ban weapons, people instantly go to buy those weapons.

    I hold a bachelors from Texas A&M in Environmental Deisgn, Architcture. I have my MBA from the University of Alabama. I have my Masters of Science in Engineering, Environmental from Louisiana State University. I am the youngest healthcare director in the state in a hospital of at least 200 beds... So I would shut the fuck up about who is illiterate or not.

    I understand a man's rights but that doesn't change the fact that man sometimes is misguided and overall plain stupid... Thus in majority a gun of that magnitude should not be allowed (in most cases).

    I own multiple firearms myself, but I can proudly say none of them go above and beyond what I need to protect my wife and to hunt. Nothing more, nothing less.

    I own a fuel efficient car, a diesel TDi, because common sense tells me that not only can I save money but I am using way less fuel than the average driver.

    I own a 1500sf home because common sense tells me that my wife and I don't require anymore space or it would be a waste (utilities, money, and time).

    It's simple tactics of risk assessment.

    I am so sorry that I have different views than what seems like every single one of you on this fucking board, but you know what, I am proud of that. I am not a blinded, southern, right-winged man - I choose to open my eyes and evolve. It's 2013, not 1913.

    Just so you know, before someone thinks they are so awesome and bring it up... I did NOT vote for Obama and in fact, I have never voted democrat. Since the day I could vote - I vote straight ticket red. So fuck off with any of those comments.

    Gary you do realize that this rifle is of a relatively small caliber? My children started hunting deer with a .223 when they were 6 years old! The gun they used and the ar 15 use the same bullet. It is a great gun for shooting small game, deer and hogs,targets ect. It is not a automatic rifle, it is not an assault rifle. It is dressed up and looks like one. That is all! So, as for a "gun of that magnitude" comment, you should know what you are talking about. It is relatively small compared to your " white deer" hunting rifle, and the guns that you have to "protect your wife and to hunt". That is a guess on my part, but if you hunt deer with a rifle with a smaller than .223 then you are doing a disservice to the animal in my opinion. The problem we are going to have is that people want to ban guns on how they look, not what they actually are!! I know you are an educated man Gary, so do your research before you speak about things you don't know much about. This is how we lose our rights! Ban the AR and what comes next Gary?

    I know what an AR-15 is. I have fired them multiple times and I find them very easy use, even compared to a simple Remington 870 shotgun.
    That's where the national fear comes from. It's such a deadly weapon that even a 7 year old could master with some slight knowledge of weapons.
    Come at me all you want, thinking I don't know what I am talking about... But you'll be sorely mistaken to do so.

  • The third round from the left is a .300 deer hunting round. The second to last round is a 5.56 AR-15 round.

    Now why would Gary need a gun that big? Just dumb and impractical!

  • Most AR's are .223. Even my M16 is .223. 7.62 is what military M16's use.
