Electric is a no-no, as I plan on taking this with me out to the woods where I ain't got none.

Obviously this isn't going to do the same job as a $4k heavy-gauge smoker, but that's not what I'm in the market for.

I hope to pick up one of the swedish insta-suck attachments. Anyone know where to get those in Houston?

Yep, in that case you probably don't want an electric one! I have heard nothing but good things about the BGE, though. Sounds like a good choice.

I think a large is the right size. The reason I got one is because I can use it to grill which requires high temperatures, and I can use it to smoke stuff which requires low temperatures for long periods. The air vents at top and bottom allow you to control the temperature very well. I didn't want to buy a grill and smoker, I have only so much room on the patio. You can also do other cool stuff like bake pizza on a pizza stone which tastes incredible in that you get a smoky flavor added to the pizza.

I'm going by Berings today.

I'm hoping it pays for itself via animals voluntarily presenting themselves to be cooked.

I have had the XL for a few years. The only complaint I have is the XL is more difficult to use than the other sizes. I finally bought a BBQ Guru to get the temp. up and keep it steady. The XL has a different design than the other sizes which apparently causes it to be more difficult to get to temperature and maintain.

The cooking area of the XL is nice as I have had 4 full size briskets when using the raised grill attachment.

If I had it to do over I would get the large as it is easier to use and more often then not I have alot of wasted cooking area on the XL.
