I'm going to be on the Finebaum show at 2:00 (Sirius/XM Ch. 91)

  • Haha I like the Bama fan warning us right before it happend an then it turns out like this good stuff

    BigTiminAg

  • Hey, it's his show, he can say whatever he wants. I just don't really see the point of that "interview" we just had. He could have just railed on rumors on his own if that was his goal.

Just FYI. Paul is VERY connected in the SEC as in, he regularly has lunch with Mike Slive whom he is personal friends with. Someone within the SEC very well could have told Paul to "interview" like he did because they don't want the talk to get too national before the deal is done.

Haha, I think my fragile emotions will make it through this traumatic experience.

  • should have identified yourself as aubrey from mulga.

  • I would love for us to go to the sec. With that being said, I am not as excited as I was before the interview.

Paul didn't ask any tricky questions, yet you weren't able to answer any of them. I don't doubt that you have a source, but hopefully your source is not playing you in order to stir the pot.

  • Well, like I've been saying since this all first happened, it's an issue a lot more complicated than most people are willing to sit through in todays "sound bite" reporting world.

That's fine with me, we'll keep doing what we do.

Explain it then, without revealing your sources- what do you know that goes beyond the rumors and innuendo that we've all heard? Why is your information credible?

it sounds to me like you weren't prepared and Finebaum treated you as such- can you refute this, and if so why didn't you do it on the air?

Y'alls recruiting information is second to none, but if you are going to get into the game of reporting on high level issues like going to the SEC, you better be prepared to explain yourself, or you will make yourself, as well as A&M in general, look foolish, which is apparently what just happened.

  • Recap anyone? For those of us who missed it?

No, what just happened is Finebaum was an ass as usual. Hey can we call you Finebaum Jr? BTW you must have been one of the last journalism majors out of A&M since you seem to know so much about reporting.

BTW Finebaum has NEVER been considered a reporter, hes a PERSONALITY. He does schtick, not substance. People tune in to hear him do this to other people. For some reason it makes them laugh and feel like they are getting info....

    armyag

  • Any Aggie insider would have had a difficult time explaining this topic at that moment because he was obviously out for blood and had an agenda.

I am sorry. I'm not here to flame but to say Finebaum has never been considered a reporter just means that you don't know what you're talking about.

Paul was an investigative journalist long before he became a radio host. He actually just recently gave up his reporting job b/c of the decline of the newspaper business.

He was by many considered one of the best investigative journalists in the south

  • Yeah, obviously I could have done better. I wasn't prepared for that kind of "interview."

It is what it is though, time to move on to the next one.

  • Brent Zwerneman, who covers A&M for the San Antonio paper & the Houston Chronicle just tweeted:

    "BrentZwerneman Brent Zwerneman
High-ranking A&M official just told me there have been "no precipitating events that have led to today's rumors & speculations" about SEC"

    "BrentZwerneman Brent Zwerneman
High-ranking A&M official also said there will be "no imminent announcement or anything of that matter" concerning the SEC "

One of the 2 of you are very, very wrong.

  • Looks like Finebaum himself is posting in here...

Ha, everyone knows the dude is a whackjob.

    09Gata

  • Finebaum did kinda roll over you but I think you were a little to nice to that egotistical jerk.

  • Maybe everything you're saying is true, but the way it came off (and we have more knowledge than Finebaum on this issue) is that Aubrey was simply reacting to the stuff that the spadilly guy put out there, which was news to many A&M fans (at least that it was on paper) but likely not news to A&M's leadership.

It is doubtful that A&M's leadership has had the violent reaction to this information that the A&M fan base has, because they already knew this information. It may be that this information will ultimately lead to A&M leaving for the SEC, but the release of this information via the FOIA request should have no effect on A&M (or the SEC's) timetable on this.

Thus, the implication is that Aubrey was merely citing the generic internet and message board rumor mill that has suggested the move to the SEC is now imminent, which in large part is probably nothing more than wishful thinking. Aubrey's responses to Finebaum's pointed questions did nothing to suggest that implication is false.

I don't agree with Finebaum asking where Aubrey went to school and how long he's been in the business, and I thought Aubrey handled that question very well. Frankly this is information Finebaum should have already known, and the large majority of guys who run fan and recruiting sites for certain schools went to that school.

I don't think Aubrey sounded unprofessional or not knowledgeable, but it did come across as someone who was backtracking from having actual "sources" that a move to the SEC was imminent to citing to general rumor and message board innuendo. That is a problem because that is where owners of fan sites lose all credibility, and make it appear that the "tail wags the dog."

  • Ruxin, that's pretty well said and kind of how I feel about it also. I let him dictate the conversation the whole way instead of stepping in. But you learn and move on.
