Honestly, if you want to be an Aggie and eventually get up to CS, Galveston is probably the way to go, especially if they shut down Kyle and play in Houston, and Galveston gets all the perks of CS students including the same diploma and ring if you finish there FWIW not that I agree.

Look into general studies ... Call one of the advisors and show genuine interest. Instead of moving to galveston for a year you might be able to get into GS. They'll tell you want you need to do in order to get admitted. Do it (make your grades), keep in touch with them and keep applying. It may be easier to stay focused at home for a year at cc then transfer in. Either that or go to blinn and get your residency. Both options will be appreciated by your patents that will be paying for it. Good luck!

I graduated from TAMUG in 94 with a BS in Maritime Administration which is basically a business degree specializing in the Maritime industry. As you may know, TAMUG is a branch campus that offers Marine related studies for example, marine biology, marine science, marine engineering, marine transportation (corp cadets), marine administration etc.
These are not easy degrees and routinely each fall semester the university saw record enrollment only to have the numbers decline significantly in the spring and many students transferred or dropped out due to academic struggles. I started as marine biology major but quickly learned it was not for me. Every bio student, friend and graduate i spoke to had grand ideas of graduating with a bio degree and working with Flipper at Seaworld, diving with Jac Custou (spell check) or working in Texas Parks and Wildlife. Unfortunately only a small few actually get these types of jobs and the majority are relegated to continuing education (ie masters) to have a shot at any decent paying job, most likely teaching or research. I made the switch to Marine Administration and had several job opportunities available upon graduation. Galveston is a fun city but the campus does lack a lot of the draw of main campus as far as sports teams, events, etc. Gotta make the drive to CS for game day.
One thing i will say is that the Marine Administration, Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation degrees were all 100% hire rate and most everyone is pursued or already has a job lined up before graduation. It also provides you an opportunity to work anywhere there is established coastal industries.
I chose TAMUG when i decided i always wanted to live by the water (ocean). I realized that i would not be happy if i were land locked working some office job far away from surfing, fishing etc. I grew up in Houston/Manvel/Alvin/Galveston and had family in Ventura California and after many years of visiting SoCal i picked up surfing. After a few years working in the Port of Houston, made the move to Huntington Beach CA and have been working in the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach since 97.

Is TAMU Galveston worth it?
