Agreed. The reason Sumlin's spread will be more effective is (a) it's simpler in scheme and therefore easier for college athletes with limited practice time to execute and (b) it uses the short passing game more often, allowing for easy yards and the ability for YAC's.
Mike Leach talks a lot about how the key to his offense was execution. That's why Leach, Kingsbury and Holgerson have an 8.5X11 play card. There are only a few different plays run out of a myriad of formations. But by only having a certain number of plays, execution is perfected.
