Jamar Gibson rarely plays offense & no WR. How does this happen?

  • How can a school with a talent at WR like Jamar Gibson, not be able to throw the ball at all? Jamar hasnt played wideout this year, this week hes finally getting offensive snaps and its at RB.

It blows my mind when these high school offenses cant effectively pass at all. Its Texas, you have a ton of talent and a lot of kids growing up passing the ball, and watching pass heavy football on TV. At a 4A or 5A school, they must to have a couple guys that can throw. If you truly dont have a capable passer, then to me it's got to be a bigger, more grass roots level problem. With the sheer body count of young kids interested in football, not having a passing game means they simply aren't being coached properly from the pee wees, YMCA, 6-8th grade, on up.

The game has evolved, and if your not running a spread. or at least a semblance of a pro-style offense, you aren't getting the kids prepared for the next level.

Not just saying its not an aesthetically pleasing brand of football, but the actual team, HS football program, district or area youth programs are just 10-20 years behind the curve of the evolved progress of the game. Then you see some quality recruits and it validates the game a bit, but still, you get my point.

I'm playing devils advocate a bit here, because there a HS teams that have unstoppable rushing offenses. But its not the good running, but the ineptness of the pass is more what im getting at. A lot of it certainly has to do with participation, resources and commitment to the program.

I know a lot of yalls HS teams probably played this style of a pure running attack and so I would like to hear some thoughts?

  • I've seen several schools try to run the spread and fail miserably bc they don't have the personel.

Not every school has the type of participation that some of the big schools have (summer workouts, camps, etc).

This is true. and Im not trying to rub anybody the wrong way. I know a lot of it can be economical and due to a lack of adequate coaching. Just trying to see what every bodies thought on the general concept is.

  • I think there are a lot of factors into it.

I have a very close friend who is a hs coach. He's always talking about participation. There are lots of kids who have talent but lack the effort, commitment, and sometimes support to play. Economics play a part as well.

With all of that being said, there are times some schools just don't have the talent to have a stud qb yr in and yr out. The coaches have to change schemes to fit their talents.

Parcipation is definitly huge, if not the most important factor. Participation, effort and commitment, - all true, but also in some situations possibly a lack of support on the home front for these things?

Agree with the last part also , sometimes you even have a good QB who is a much better runner than a passer, and so your gonna be a more run inclined team. But to have an all state receiver on your roster, and not be able to use him on offense, is a whole other story. Weve seen his youtube, all you have to do is lob it to him.

  • You hit the nail on the head. The home-front is an issue as well. My buddy has some stories that will really make you appreciate things.

It's sad bc their are some talented kids who never get an opportunity bc they have to work to help their families or little to no guidance.

The talent issue just really sucks for some kids. If I recall correctly jeff fuller didn't have a qb in hs to throw to him. He would have been a 5 star if he had the hs stats.

    That still exists??

    gunner03

  • Perhaps their running the wishbone means they don't have a QB that can throw the ball, god bless him, to save his life?

    funky07time

  • In the wishbone, Jamar gibson should play QB and run the ball for 200 yards every game.

  • Guys, the kid is a stud.

I would just be happy if he didn't play but safety the rest of the time.

I don't want his stock to go up.

    he's plenty good.

Isn't Troy Aduddle at Sterling? He coached at my alma mater (Clear Lake) and almost never passed the ball. It was mostly QB reads and options.
