Neve been to the one in Wimberly, but the one in Dripping Spring is very average. Is it the same one?

Only positive is the cool atmosphere.

Salt Lick's burnt ends are absolutely fantastic

everything else is fine, just not "special" IMO

Country Tavern hwy 31 just west of Kilgore, limited menu mostly ribs but what they do they do right.

I am on the side of thinking that Salt Lick is overrated.

I have heard that Snows is delicious, but it's only open on Saturday apparently and you gotta get there at 8-9 AM if you wanna get anything.

I'm originally from Austin and I can say that Franklins is hands down the best brisket I've ever had, be sure to allot more time than usual for lunch though because the lines are a nightmare, City Market is a distant second for me. If you're going to Lockhart I'd say pass on Kreuz's (good sausage but a little overrated in my opinion), go to Smittys for the best ribs and Blacks for the best all around (brisket, spares, and sausage). As for the salt lick I enjoy it but I just appreciate it for what it is, I don't go out there expecting the best BBQ in the state, I'll go for the atmosphere, BYOB, and the all you can eat family style, always fun with a big group.
