He told me the minute this happened that the old money there wouldn't stand for it. Exact quote:

He went to both A&M (failed out) and Arkansas, for the record.

Arkansas AD Jeff Long has a press conference at 7:15 tonight according to the Arkansas Razorback FB page. So many people on that FB page are saying he shouldn't be fired for having the affair on his own time. Problem is: that is not what he is in trouble for. It is for lying to the AD about who was or was not with him when the accident occurred. Only reason he came clean with the AD and his family is it was going to come out in the police report.

I'm with Fireman on this with one addition.
I don't think it has anything to do with having an affair on his own time either. Anywhere you work, having sex with someone that reports to you is a terminable offense. He hired her 1 week before the wreck. Of course lying to his boss didn't help his cause either. The biggest issue is sleeping with someone when their pay and performance evaluations are done by you. Long didn't have a choice in this matter.
