Question for those at spring game

What was the overall look of our defense from an format and philosophy standpoint?
Did we play with our base defense scheme with 7 proper personnel members in the formation or was it prevent nickel/dime packages for the most part?
If it was the latter, was it because we were forsed to play with more small DBs simply because the offense Sumlin was trying to practice and run?
I'm worried we're going to have a Gary Darnell type defense heading into the SEC. Which is obviously a recipe for instant disaster in this league. One where we give up yards but hope to keep people in front of us instead of dictating the pace and physicality of the game.
Miss the attacking 3-4 already :/

This defense attacks just as much as DeRuyters, I'm not sure what you are missing.

we were working on nickle a lot with otis/floyd/and hurd/harris at CB with everett+matthews at S
brought various LB / DB blitzes quite a bit

We didn't have 7 people in the box all day. Ran nickel because that's what we need to do against that offense. Snyder has said that we will be multiple depending on who we're playing. I am concerned that our D won't face enough pro style, power running offense in practice.

I am in agreement.
If we line up in nickel vs Bama LSU Auburn etc we are going to be in for a long damn day.
Hope these guys understand what they are facing.

You should go watch the highlights from the M&W game and Coach Price's Mic'd up. I like Coach Price. He definitely tells it like it is. "I don't know where the greatest D-line talent in the league is, but it isn't here, so we have to be tough and physical and never stop"

Looking forward to watching spenser ware chew us up all damn day long.
This isn't the f'ing conference USA. I don't think our coaches really get that yet.
Sumlin needs a reality check I think. An LSU ass whipping at Kyle is what he needs.

If Alabama and LSU run alot of 4 wide receiver sets out of the gun I'm sure we'll be in nickel alot. If we're not in nickel our LBs will be getting burned by their slot guys. What we'll see in the SEC are alot 2 back sets with TEs, 1 back+TE+3WR, and occasionally 4 WR sets in passing downs. We'll see alot more base 4-3 defense against SEC squads because no one will be running a spread like we do.
I really have no idea how you are forming your opinions. Any DC would play nickel against a 4WR set. I think you're just being a dickhead and trolling as usual.

Snyder has a very long resume.
Pretty sure anything that someone on this board has noticed isn't over his head. He was DC at Ohio State. Not exactly the small time.
