Question from a Vol fan

  • How has the switch to the SEC affected recruiting for A&M? Are you winning any battles over Texas or Oklahoma that you wouldn't have likely won in the past?

Hard to tell right now. I think the SEC is helping us especially on the defensive side of the ball, but Sumlin and his staff are also much better recruiters than the last staff.

  • Yes, absolutely. Dont know if it is Sumlin or SEC but recruiting is the best in a long time right now.

Dont be fooled by where longhorn offers show up in the system. Mack asks kids he wants what they would do if they got an offer, depends on their response whether or not they get an offer. Worked for a while for them, but kids are smart enough to see what is happening to that program.

  • TOS is saying we have won 6 of 7 head-to-heads with OU so far. And we seem to be more successful against LSU in Houston than the last 10 years or so.

Those are the 2 main reasons A&M has slipped into mediocrity over the last 10 years or so (OU in Dallas & LSU in Houston). If this continues, we will become very scary in the next 3-4 years.

Either way, I look forward to visiting Rocky Top some day.

  • We've won 5 head-to-heads against OU in this class, which is the most probably since Stoops was hired. The SEC is helping a good bit- we hear the recruits talk about it in nearly every interview- but I think our recent recruiting success is more an effect of hiring a stud recruiter for the Metroplex. Doesn't hurt that OU lost Venables, who had been a thorn in our side up there for years.

As for going against UT, it's hard to gauge progress against them with their whole "conditional offer" policy

Who are they showing? I have Golden, Gonzalez, Chevis, Gustafson, and Walker

  • SEC Ag

  • It definitely helps and will continue to help more as time goes on. Kids no longer will grow up having to choose between A&M and tu when they watch football. They will be able to root for us in the SEC and tu in the big 12. That way we won't have to try to recruit kids that have grown up loving tu. And that's only one aspect of it

    Parker & Maestro.

I could see Parker having one, but 247 doesn't list it. Mastrogiovanni is committed to OU. Regardless, we've won more than lost against them this season and one of their 3 commits that have A&M offers I don't think we pursued at all: Ford. Times are changing, and the SEC is a big part of that, volfan28

Mastro is the one we lost (6 out of 7)

  • My bad- thought you said "or". We also lost out on D.J. Ward and maybe Keith Ford

    TAMUwake

  • I figured that'd be the case. You guys should have a competitive program with the recruiting bed you have there in Texas, the 12th man, and now you can tell your recruits "hey, come here and you can play against the best in the country every week".. something most of the schools you're competing with for recruits can't say. Then there's Sumlin.. good football coach. Y'all will be fine and most likely a force to be reckoned with in the near furture.

Now, Missouri.... not so much. They'll end up being a Kentucky.

    volfan28

  • i think missouri will be a lot better than kentucky. they do have good players in that stat they just arent in abundance like in texas but pinkel is a really good coach that can do more with less better than anyone.
