What was your feeling when they decided to legalize the forward pass in football?

Clearly you don't understand offsides. It can only be helpful if you have the speed to play the game that way. The fastest players actually don't have to worry about the rule because they can still beat everyone else to the ball once it is played.

So now you're changing your argument. At first it was that offsides denies the faster more athletic players the upper hand. "You would find it pointless to let the best and most decisive athletes decide the outcome of a game" Now it is about skill and tactics? I'm not really tracking where you are going with this or what your actual argument is because you are contradicting yourself. Being skilled and being athletic are two separate things. The Italians are both, but even great teams lose to the underdog sometimes. If the Italians are really as tactically superior than the Americans, they would know how to play within the rules. Its like saying a team is dumb in basketball for using a zone defense against a team with poor outside shooting.

If you don't think messi scores every time you don't watch that much futbol. Your reasoning behind offsides is ridiculous. Yes the goalie can us his hands but only within the box. Messi would school every keeper 100% of the time no matter who the goalie is.

So. You're saying the Goalie would just stand there until Messi was able to control a ball coming at him at 25-30 mph? Without trying to out-position him in the box? You do realize it would be a jump ball for initial possession in that type situation, right? You do realize that a 5'-6" Messi can't use his hands against a 6'+ Goalie in that situation, right?

Say Messi gets the ball outside of the box. It takes him 2 seconds to control a ball coming at that speed with a high trajectory. All the while there are defenders running down to play defense (he's never going to be all by himself on 1 half of the field, in real life).

Neither situation is as easy for the offense as you make it out to be.

I give a great player like Messi a <25% chance of scoring under either circumstance (much lower if the ball came in the box). Still, much higher than normal. But it leads to great one-on-one/two highlight situations that make watching great athletes compete so memorable.

It's called through balls homie. People score more than 80% of the time on them. Know the facts. Messi scores every one if he gets a through ball to split the defense and is left one on one with the goalie. Your reasoning is way off base.

Goalies don't stand a chance in one on one situations that's why they make the rule of offsides. Ask any coach in Europe or the US and you get the same answer.

Once again you are wrong through balls are played every game without an "offside trap". It's not called a "sleeper" it's called a "sweeper" look it up. It's not on "guard" its called "defense".

After that your new rule sucks: like Aubs said every rule is but into place to control the game. It also shows "goalies" do not stand a chance on "one v one". Please move on your ignorance of soccer is unreal.

Frustrating that you can't understand that nothing happens in a vacuum. Any change by the offense will result in a counteraction by the defense, thereby reducing the odds of success (though the offensive odds will definitely go up from the original rules). Sigh.

Sorry man but you have the terminology wrong I have been around the sport and played in college. I have played 7v7 11v11 3v3. Some tourneys change the rules for instance when you play 3v3 there is no offsides the game is super quick and has to be played by continuous movement therefore you need 6 guys to play one tourney usually because you run anywhere from 4-5 miles a game. Changing the offside rule would change the game of soccer and therefore it's image. If you don't think having someone sit back by the goal and cherry pick would result in goals being scored almost every minute then you are completely wrong it's just the bottom line. Ask any decent coach in the world and he would laugh in your face if you told him Messi or Ronaldo wouldn't score 100% of the time. Then ask him what would happen to the game of soccer without offsides and he will tell you it would make the game irrelevant. Btw... When you can't tell me the last line of defense for soccer you are telling me you know nothing about the game!
