Soft Commits

  • Of the three current commits who do you think has the best chance playing for us on Saturdays?

    Kohl Stewart
    Derrick Griffin
    Jamar Gibson

I feel the difference in having a good class vs. a great class rests on these three guys.

  • NewArmy,

Not sure where you have been, but Jamar Gibson isn't a commit. Sumlin and the coaches have never met or talked to the guy. We are full. There is no room for Gibson. He'll never play here and I'll bet he doesn't even play football this fall on his own high school team.

Griffin will never qualify. He skipped summer school this summer. He's done.

    Stewart is your best bet.

i just don't understand why people keep bringing up Gibson. He doesn't even play football anymore.

  • In my opinion, we go 0-for-3. Kohl's future is professional baseball. I don't know why the OP would say our class depends on him. I think it is a much bigger blow to lose Hill (he is not a pro baseball risk).

  • I thought Hill was actually a Pro Baseball risk too, although not as highly sought after as Stewart at this point?

    Xterminator,

It's because Jamar Gibson is an absolute stud. He is the kind of player that you make room for if you can. I don't care if he spends his senior year in the band. How bad can his grades really be? You don't exactly have to be a Rhodes scholar to get into college on a football scholarship.

It has been said that Gibson is in a better position to qualify than Griffin, not to sure that says much of anything, but FWIW. If they can get Gibson qualified and down for some camps, even if he is rusty he is a take. Red shirt him and put him on the field the next year. Would be a hellava SS as well if he gets his head straight

Hill is not a professional baseball risk. He could be a good college baseball player, but don't see him doing both.

  • I don't think any will make it either. Gibson isn't even a committed. Kohl is the most likely but I think he'll probably do baseball. Still a great class.

I agree, even though they are some of the biggest star power in the class, it won't matter if they never make it on the field. It also opens up more spots for late bloomer offers and might keep us from oversigning or dropping kids last minute if a Manning or Savaiinaea switches last minute.

If we don't add anyone else, and don't get any of these three guys, it's still a great class.

As for Griffin, I'm not counting on him by any means, but I wouldn't completely write him off like some(Colin). FWIW, if I had to guess I'd say he doesn't get it, I just think it's too early to say with 100% certainty.
