I think all of this is way premature. A&M joining the SEC isn't going to cause a cascade of realignment over the coming months. Now a few years from now? Sure.

The logical is 18 team so you have your 9 in-conference without a crossover, it raises the bar to 72 teams so there is less squabbling about the have-nots, and the format makes a perfect NC Playoff beginning with the Conf Champs. All 8 in the Conf make the 1st cut of what are now the Champ Bowls with 2 Bowls alternating for the final 4. The "lower 48" could have 4 12 team Conf and play in some of the Tier 2 and 3 Bowls.

Of course 1 Bowl would have to be elevated to Tier 1 status and then all 5 would rotate and get the NC game 1 in 5 years. This would be the ultimate scenario and the NC game could be played on the weekend in between the NFL Div finals and the Super Bowl.

I would bet the Big 10 doesn't move a muscle until they are forced to or Notre Dame finally says they'll join. I don't think the dominoes will start until something causes the Big 12 to dissolve and Texas must pick either the PAC, SEC, or Big 10. Once Texas decides, I would agree that it will be a quick grab because the other Big 12 schools could presumably move without financial penalty.
