My guess is kenn Starr doesn't have the balls to sue them...freeing up us to the SEC

  • I still don't think anyone in the Big 12 will make a final move until A&M/the SEC does.

Well the SEC clearly won't move until someone else does so where does that leave us? A constant state of limbo where each party is waiting for the other to make the first move?

    FortWorthTide

  • I don't think the wait will be that long.

  • Fortworth, not sure I agree that they clearly won't make a move. In fact, I'm not so sure they haven't already determined what they are going to do and when.

  • What do y'all think will happen to Mizzou? I could see them being the 15th team.I know they could be in play for the big 10 also.

Then why haven't they done anything yet? Not doubting you - just frustrated.

I really don't want Mizzou because I want to make sure Alabama and Auburn both stay in the Western division. I want to pick up one team from the East (WVU looks most likely at this point) and stay at 14 with an additional conference game. It would be easier and would prevent stupid "pod" arrangements. You play the 6 other teams in your division, with one permanent "cross division rival" and two rotating cross division games.

  • Ken Starr dragged the President of the United States of America through the sewer publicly.

He wouldn't hesitate to sue Texas (the conference that takes them) for half a second.

  • SEC kinda screwed the pooch on this whole deal by dragging its feet. Now the ACC has stolen its thunder by raiding the Big East and become the first league to officially break 12 schools.

Im a USC fan and want to keep Bama and Auburn in the west also. I just think we go to 16 with the pac and A She She doing it. Mizzou in the West and find another eastern team to pair with WV.

Syracuse can't get 40K fans for a home game and last week Pitt tickets were on Stub Hub for under a dollar. I hardly call adding those two stealing thunder.

I don't think we would need to go to 16 though. If we have to, I'd like it to be as you described (two from the west, two from the east) but I still don't like it. We are already the best conference, and would be adding two great programs. We'd still be far better than the PAC16 or ACC16. The Big10 couldn't go to 16 without diluting the conference too much - the most I could see them doing is ND plus another team. I think the SEC could be in great shape at 14.

  • Loftin said at halftime of the game this will be over in a few days. Also he was not surprised by the move of big east schools to the ACC.

Believe me, I don't think either school has the magnitude of A&M, but the SEC had a chance to throw down the gauntlet and start the conference wars, and now the ACC has actually done it. Though its just Pitt and SU, the ACC just swiped two schools from an AQ conference and broke the 12 team barrier and now the Big East will be scrambling to keep its status and start swallowing up other schools. The war has begun while the SEC is still worrying about big, bad baylor.

I agree that it looks weak and the SEC should have moved (ignored baylor). But I believe the reason they didn't is because not only was the SEC going to be a potential defendant in a lawsuit, but Slive HIMSELF was going to be. I think had they only threatened to sue the conference the fear would not have been there as much.

  • SEC scheduling Ags for nxt season. I'm not worried and don't really give a shit where all the other big xii schools go.

    Agsrwe

  • Thats funny, because all of the reports regarding the announcement of our move to the SEC included tidbits that the SEC wanted us to announce during the first week of the season so the spotlight would be on the SEC prior to the games even being played. To me, that sounds like they do give a "rats ass" as to being the one who starts it. The SEC is generally considered as the most savvy athletic conference in terms of marketing, and I think having every major news outlet talking about them starting the realignment race would be a pretty effective means of increasing the conference's brand. Could be wrong though.

  • My understanding of the timeline for us to announce the move to the SEC is now based solely on the exit fee. If any other school(OU,OSU,etc.)announce they are leaving, we save 10-15 million dollars. We will wait till someone else also moves(Heard it should be Monday with us and Okla.)We shall see.explode

  • Honestly with that "pod" system that sounds kind of boring. The only stadiums I would have any interest in visiting in the PAC are Oregon and USC, which they will only play in once every eight years. I can't imagine recruits would be too thrilled with playing some of their games out there.
