  • SEC Ag - The problem is: You're never right, and everything I got blasted on being a "negative nancy" has actually happened. It's not being irrationally negative if it actually occurs.

    So as soon as Mastro and Walker are off the table and it's not to the Ags, you can officially apologize.

    Then, if we somehow land Prevot and/or Maurice Smith and/or Jones and/or Manning, I'll admit I was wrong and Sumlin killed it.

    I'm not going to do so for kids with lousy offers, because it's hardly a display of impressive recruiting to beat Texas Tech or TCU or NU or OSU for recruits. We should have a very high hit rate against them by default.

    How many of those recruits have we actually had to fight for? And the ones we do have to fight for are signing other places. If Sumlin lands Samples, Prevot, Smith, Chevis, Walker, LaRue, or any other top recruit then you can talk. But when our biggest competition is Tech and we beat them then it's no big deal.

    Chevis (we probably will)
    Mastro (slim chance)
    Prevot (slim chance)
    Maurice Smith (slim chance)
    A Davis (nope)
    Lacouture (nope)
    M Jones (nope)
    H Walker (decent chance)
    Manning (slim chance)
    Hoza Scott (long way to go, sounds like we're losing ground)
    C Collions (good chance)

    Which of the above am I going to be wrong about? The above are the kids we're actually in fights with other schools for.

    I don't opine on kids whose best offer by far is A&M. Those aren't recruiting victories and the coaches get zero credit for beating out Baylor or Tech or TCU or OSU or NU. That's not impressive.

    I don't think anyone disagrees with this, but what exactly is your solution given the state of our program for the last decade and a half? What silver bullets are you suggesting exactly, because I don't believe they exist? Anybody can point out problems...what we need is solutions and I hear way too few from the critics on here. Typical drivel I see on here way to often-

    1) We need to recruit better on D...we are awful on the D-line...we need some DT help
    2) We need to start beating out the big programs

    No kidding. Profound stuff guys.

I'm hoping this last class did that. But we gotta make sure everyone gets in. Time to stop fucking around and start getting kids in. No more bullshit like the Strahan or David problems we've had. Also we need to start cutting lose ends with kids that aren't pulling their own. We should be doing what Texas is doing. Backdoor all the shitty kids. It's time to start acting like we are in the SEC.

    I appreciate that you are offering up some options, although I would argue that the Win...Win...Win point is a little tough as it relies on a whole lot of things that we have obviously not been able to put together for over a decade. So that specific item will take time I believe.

    That said, I'm with you on your other suggestions as far as changing the culture, eliminating misses on talented players who have no shot of getting in and keeping players on roster who earn their spot.

    Reason we will not get Mastro...Reason we will probably miss on a lot of others. But if we can get Daddy's JUCOs and shore up the DL we may have a chance to look respectable and have a shot at turning these fence-sitters
