  • "Everything from the music, to the band, to yells, absolutely everything needs to be looked at."

Couldn't agree more. The production of a men's basketball game is absolutely pathetic. Clean house and start from scratch.

  • "A&M needs to look at a complete overhaul of how they manage basketball games in the offseason. Everything from the music, to the band, to yells, absolutely everything needs to be looked at"

Yeah they do. Problem is everyone knows this will never happen

  • Can't tell you the number of times I've been asked by the yell leaders or other students to stop taunting the other team because it's just not nice. We need to send our yell leaders on a field trip to Kentucky or duke or somewhere like that so they can realize that yelling "army" during a game just isn't intimidating

  • curious... what do you guys find unacceptable about the current game production/managment? just as important, what would you replace that with (if anything)?

Not taking sides - I'm admittedly a "new" basketball fan, I didn't follow basketball untill BKG's second year but I jumped on board immediately and gladly pulled my weight as a fan (i.e. show up to games - even the un-sexy ones) until I graduated and moved away. So I don't have a good frame of reference for how something different (better or worse) could/would be done (never have attended an away game).

Shermanager11 started with some ideas, but I'm still curious...

The game day atmosphere was great during the Sweet 16 run and good during a few of Turgeon's years. Part of it was the packed house. Part of it was winning. Part of it was the student enthusiasm. Maybe the biggest thing was Gillespie's sideline charisma. Like Bruce Pearl, BCG could start the crowd into a frenzy simply by admonishing a bad play, smirking at a bad call, or encouragingly clapping for a good play.

It's sort of like a team itself where winning covers up a lot of the problems, but even back then the production wasn't anything great, people were just excited to be good.

Most of it is little things, for example last night A&M was coming out of a dead ball into an offensive possession and they played "jump around" over the speakers. A song that would be MUCH better served to be played before a defensive possession (so that the students could... you know... jump around...)

Something I actually suggested back in like 2006 was changing up some of the yells. Anyone who wants yell leaders out of Reed Arena isn't thinking big picture. No other student section in America can get chants started as quickly as A&M can because of the yell leaders, but they need some new ones. One thing I suggested was taking some of the yells, and turning them into chants. For example instead of just one "farmers fight" keep repeating it the whole possession or something. There's a stellar opportunity for the yell leaders to really make a difference and come up with some good stuff, but they haven't.

The trash can toss, the spot shooting contest, the numbers guessing game, basically every game they currently have except for the Chick Fil A one need to go. They're terrible.

The music that Hullabaloo plays is absolutely terrible. I mean real bad. I could keep going but you get the point.

What needs to happen is something similar to what we did when planning for facilities upgrades. The AD admin, prominent donors, and coaches go and visit schools with the best facilities to start brainstorming what they like and how to incorporate the good stuff at A&M. In this case, the yell leaders, band director, PA crew, and event planning need to go see basketball games at Kenutcky, Kansas, North Carolina, Duke, etc and figure out how to improve the Aggie basketball game experience. Having had season tickets for a long time, I can tell you that I find our non-conference home games to be awful as far as production and entertainment. Over the last seven years or so, this generally was glossed over when conference play started because the games were so much more entertaining, meaningful, and we have had good teams. This season has given me flashbacks to the Melvin Watkins and Tony Barone era's and has been quite deflating. I agree, the powers that be need to go back to the drawing board and start over.

  • Basketball is terribly marketed. I remember hearing Jason cook saying that he feels they shouldn't have to market for the big games. The team performance hasn't helped, but our bball's marketing team flat out does nothing. It's like they aren't even trying bc the team is good. It's embarrassing. You don't hear anything about them talking about the sec or attempting to bring excitement.

  • It aggrevates the heck out of me when we call a timeout in basketball and the yell leaders lead yells. If we call a timeout to talk something over with the players, why on earth are we yelling to where they can't hear???

  • Basketball needs a face lift.

  • And a different coach. nothing personal against Kennedy, healthy or not, he never was the guy. forget Aggies credentials and hire a stud whom excites and delivers before we drift into oblivion. act quick, like right now.
