What was the point of this article?

  • Linked it incase you're an Insider.

But, basically the article is about Jake Oliver not switching to A&M just because of our good season, and how Gary isn't really excited about our season because he wants to see sustained success.

And then, after the majority of the article is about Jake not switching to A&M, the writer throws in at the end: "Oliver was recruited heavily by Texas A&M’s old staff, led by head coach Mike Sherman, whom Gary worked under as a graduate assistant. The new staff, led by Kevin Sumlin, hasn’t recruited him as much."

So what the hell was the point? Appease the burnt orange masses?

  • Gotta put a positive spin on anything you can at this point if you're them.

    It's sad.

  • In my opinion, I'd rather have the folks in Austin believing they are still the best choice for recruits than for them to realize the change in momentum that has taken place. Let them live in denial for another three years or so while we get a head start.

  • When there is nothing good to talk about, sometimes you have to make stuff up to stroke the ego.

Don't want the kid, need elite athletes w/ speed to get open in the SEC.

Jake would never play here with the receivers we have coming. No way Sumlin recruited him much if at all. It does sound made up to make the Horns feel good about themselves. Gotta keep up the vibe.

  • I thought it became pretty apparent Jake was more enamored with the hype and popularity of playing in Austin than the actual program.

Why any good receiver would want to go there is beyond logical thinking.

  • After watching the recruiting scene in Texas for over 10 years, the one thing that is apparent is that Mack Brown is the master of spin (only offering a student once it is clear they will commit, signing tons of kids early to make it seem like you better jump on board fast before the opportunity disappears, etc.). After he gets booted from t.u., he could always get hired as the Chief of Staff of some politician.

I'd rather have our present coach. Somebody who can really coach X's and O's, has natural charisma, etc.

  • Can't read the article because it's Insider.

I think we initially recruited him hard. But, I hoenestly wouldn't trade him any one of our receivers right now.

And it's funny that traitor Gary says he wants to see sustained success, because one thing that has been sustained over the past several years is Texas' lack of a passing game.

On the bright side, Jake will make one heck of an intramural player at Texas.

The article isn't about initial recruiting back in Dec of '11. It's talking about Jake not switching RIGHT NOW because of our success this year. Well, are we even recruiting him? We have Parker, Quincy, JaQuay, and will get RSJ...doesn't seem to be room for a Jake Oliver in there.

  • Two thoughts: 1. Just last weekend, a friend of mine, who is a tu fan but he is one of the somewhat reasonable ones, and I were talking about the recruiting shift. He acknowledged it has changed for the most part and will stay that way as long as we don't falter big time. However, he brought up what I thought was an awful excuse/warning 'now that every recruit wants to jump on you gotta take the top ones, thats what killed texas, not getting their guys cuz they could just take top recruits' Really? I was speechless.

    2. Good luck to Jake, we wanted him months ago when our options were more limited. now they wish Cobra wanted him so they could say no, but instead they put out this. Maybe tu finds someone that can throw the ball to him. On to Gary's comments that just supplanted Mr. Thompson as the worst Ag ever. I dont give a rats ass what happens in 4 years, they will probably be middle of the road but at the top of the big 12, and Jake will be the latest senior sipper to have a 'good' career but never quite meet expectations. Regardless, I do not care, u just played down your alma maters success for whatever reason and will now apparently be sending your son and your money to tu. There is no middle ground here. Goodbye Mr. Oliver; no one will be helping you back on the maroon wagon. Don't let a sip backdoor you on the way out, they like that sort of thing.

Your logic is boggling my mind

  • Atrocious ag parents out there

    circa87

  • Another thing I don't quite get; the article mentions Jake growing up and going to longhorn games all the time...who was bringing him to those games? How did he first get interested in them? With two Ag parents, how the hell does something like that happen? Terrible.

  • This is pure whorn spin, concocted to rally their base in the face of depressing evidence that A&M has supplanted them at the #1 school in Texas for Texas recruits. A&M just landed a 4* WR commit from Georgia/FUMA prep who was previously committed to Auburn and whose next best option was Georgia. Whorn continues to have a miserable passing offense for at least the third straight year. That's what I call a consistent trend. And you've got some poor whorn WR recruit having his heavily-spun story pimped by whorn's media partner, EsipN. It's pure gold. Lolz.

Sadly enough...there is some truth to this. It's what happens when laziness meets a big ego. There are a lot of sip fans that never watch any high school film and simply demand that Mack signs the top twenty rated guys by whatever site they look at. Can you imagine the reaction in austin if mack signed a bunch of 3-star role players? So they load up on over-rated players with entitlement attitudes that rarely pan out, and their egos prevent them from admitting there is a problem even when their star QB recruit goes 1-9 in pee wee football. It's turned into a bunch of blind men (coaches, recruiting analysts, boosters/fans) following each other around in a circle. They're having such a great time patting each other on the back, they don't realize that they aren't getting anywhere. It's gotten to the point where you don't even need to troll the sips anymore. It's more fun to sit back and just laugh at how ridiculous they all are.

  • The article had some ridiculous comments from his dad that basically said A&M hasn't done anything. Ridiculously negative comments that no real Aggie would EVER say about their school. Somehow he got sideways with A&M over something. Either he was offended that we didn't recruit Jake after Sherman got let or what, but it's obvious from his comments that he's bitter about something. Otherwise you'd just say your son is happy with his committment to tu and let it stand at that. Taking uneccessary shots at A&M speaks of an axe to grind.

Bobby Bowden literally admitted towards the end he got screwed by recruiting off of rivals lists. He'd commit players due to their rating and when they got to campus they weren't any good. There is absolutely some of that going on in Austin. Mac loves PR and being Mr February gets him the press he loves. You don't sign guys like Tyrone Swoopes if you're serious about getting an actual QB.

  • Gary has some weird agenda against A&M. He openly hates his alma mater. To say this season wasn't great? Wow... To downplay everything and then make the comment that we finished fifth in the SEC? So glad his son isn't coming here. From every quote I've read from him, he seems like a woman scorned.
