What will be A&M's strengths and weaknesses this year...

  • I'm glad that we'll be playing each other every year, and disappointed we don't get to start right away. Just wanted to see what areas yall think the football squad would excel in and where you'd struggle.

For us, we are lacking in size at WR and have a bunch of unproven talent on the OL. Our secondary is going to have some growing pains without Gilmore, but we've got some incredible on-field leadership at Safety so hopefully they'll grow up quick. I see 8 wins on our schedule with toss-ups against Arkansas, @ Clemson, and UGA, and a probably loss @ LSU. Another 10 win season would be unbelievable considering what we lost to the draft.

  • Strength: Making shitty internet videos

Weaknesses: Not making shitty internet videos.

    Hugh Honey

  • Strengths: Offensive Line, Running Back, Linebacker

Weaknesses: Defensive Line, Depth pretty much everywhere, First year starter at QB

Unknowns: Secondary (a lot of talent, but not much game experience), Wide Receiver (a lot of talent, mostly inconsistent, except for Swope)

  • I copy-pasted this from another thread that basically asked the same thing ...

This is going to be a fun year to watch. I'm looking forward to it. I think we'll even do pretty well.

However we do have weaknesses ...

    1) When Mike Leach implemented the Air Raid offense in Lubbock, Kingsbury struggled a lot his first year. Look for much of the same from Showers this year. There is a lot of pressure on the QB to make the right decision every time. If Showers doesn't pick up the knack, it will be a very long season. If he does, it still might be a long season. Look for a bunch of interceptions this year, but next year he'll be in better shape. That's one huge benefit to our young stable of QBs.

    2) Our biggest weakness is our depth. Running back is basically the only place we are deep. That's good, but when the injuries start to pile up like they always do, look for big places that other teams can exploit.

    3) Our receivers will be a weakness until they prove otherwise. They must catch the ball.

    4) The defense must learn to speed-read this summer. All we need is for them to pick up their third new defense in 5 years, memorize it, and play it perfectly. Heck, anyone should be able to do it.

I don't really have anything to add to this thread, except that you have a legendary name. Well played, Ear Shot Cock.

  • Yep

We really need to find a way to survive & make it into the post season this year

Things will begin to really take off for us in 2013 & beyond

  • Our strength should be our running game. We've got NFL talent all over the OL and 3 5-star RBs on the roster. Another 4-star as well.

Our glaring weakness is our DL, particularly on the inside. The starters are solid, but there is zero depth. Zilch. As in, if one of them goes down, we'll have to choose between undersized freshmen or just moving an OL. Our backers lack depth as well, but should be decent. No depth at safety either.

So really, our entire defense is a weakness/risk. With very few injuries, it could be decent, but any losses at all in the front 7 could spell disaster.

  • Strenghts:
    OLine
    Tailback & tailback depth
Sumlin's offensive strategy and game plans
Starting LBs (i think, but i need to see them against the SEC big boys)

    Weaknesses:
    DL
    DL depth
    LB depth
    S depth
    WR talent as a whole

    Unknowns:
    QB play
Seconday play (although we're damn talented; got to see them play first as a unit)
    Defensive philosophy
What RSfrosh and True Frosh step up

thats how i see it at least. gig'em

  • All aforementioned pretty much covered it. Starters good - depth is an issue.
