Manziel's Record Assault Continues

More that one writer thought it might be a long time before any SEC quarterback could touch the season that Cam Newton had in 2010. With 49 touchdowns and 4,327 total yards, it was the most productive season in the history of the SEC. How could any quarterback even get close to those numbers in the defensive-minded SEC?

Manziel could break every quarterback yardage record on the books.

Well, get ready, because Manziel on pace to do it, and with one fewer game on the schedule. Here's a list of records that Manziel is closing in on.

Record Watch

Needs to average just 178 yards per game over the next three games to break Cam Newton's SEC single season record for yardage. That's less than half of what he averages per game right now.

Is already the first player in FBS History to log three 300 yard passing/100 yard rushing games in a single season.

Needs 220 more passing yards to become only the fifth 3,000/1,000 yard player in FBS History. Interestingly, all four did it in the last seven years. (Young, LeFevour, Kaepernick, Harnish.) Manziel would be the first freshman to do it.

Needs just 34 yards to break the NCAA's freshman record for total yardage currently held by Jared Lorenzen.

Already has more rushing yards than any quarterback in Texas A&M history and would need 459 yards over the next three games to break Cam Newton's SEC quarterback rushing record.

Needs 291 yards to set A&M's single season total yardage record. He could make a run at Ryan Tannehill's passing record as well. He would need just under 1,000 yards passing over the next three games, which isn't as unlikely as it sounds. He averages 278 yards passing per game now.

This isn't a record, but an interesting note, Manziel's 379.4 yards per game of total offense is more than 41 teams in the FBS.

Manziel leads all freshmen in the nation in passing yards, completions, total offense and points responsible for, and is second in rushing and scoring.
